$4.00/gallon in San Fran

Gasoline prices are seen Wednesday, Apri 4, 2007, in San Francisco. Crude oil prices slipped to $64 a barrel Wednesday after Iran said it would release the 15 British sailors it has been holding captive, alleviating some fears about tensions escalating and prompting the country to block oil exports. But gasoline prices rose on a government report that U.S. gasoline inventories declined for the eighth straight week and that demand is still strong. (AP Photo/Ben Margot)

6. If you live right IN SF, you almost don't NEED a car. I have friends in the Castro
District and they have one car between the two of them, and they both work.

8. Ultimately, high gas prices will force the US to change when it could've done so earlier
It is sad that it had to come to this. Carter had a good energy plan, but Americans voted him out. Maybe they didn't like him when he said that they should run their heaters a little less, wear an extra sweater, or make other sacrifices in light of the oil shocks of the 1970s.

Change is difficult and often expensive. It's even worse if you foolishly procrastinate.
