About MSNBC in HD on Dish Network

If you have Dish Network, Classic Silver 200 package, MSNBC should be appearing on your guide in HD now.

BUT we were not getting it, was on phone almost an hour waiting for supervisor...they just had to "authorize" the receiver.

I am very upset that after all the press releases yesterday that it took an hour to get what I was already paying for that had been available since July 8.

If you can't get MSNBC in HD on 209 on Dish, go to 9511. If it is there and in red, call programming at Dish.

This is no way to do business. I had to keep pressing to get an answer.

39. We have a rash
of posters who get every post unrec'ed. If you have ever posted something that the purity squad thinks is Anti-Obama, you get dozens of unrecommendeds just because your crossed them. This would usually be for slandering the president with a post that said something like "We need good health care" or "War is bad" or "I don't like Arlen Spector". All of these are obviously malicious attacks on Barack.

Unrec is just a bad idea. Better to do away with "Greatest Threads" than start this game.

In the past, I have agreed with you and supported that with posts. In the past, I have tangled with you and supported my position with posts. Seemed like a system that worked.

4. Oh, I was on with someone quickly....they just knew nothing.
And the supervisor knew nothing until I read their own press releases to them. They were nice enough, just really did not care to push it.

I kept saying then have a superior call me....and they finally figured it out.

They ONLY figured it out after I quoted the 9511 to them after reading it in another thread here.

42. You're going to hate dealing with Dish.
Three times I've had to deal with their customer service. Three times, I've wanted to reach through the phone and strangle someone.

They've lied to me. They've called me a liar. They have some real smart-ass supervisors. I hated doing business with them so badly, that I'd be willing to pay Rupert Murdoch more money, than to ever have to deal with Dish again.

I've been with Verizon since I shitcanned Dish.

44. When we first got Dish....I finally wrote HQ in the midwest.
I called first, said I was sending a documentation of all the runarounds. I got a VIP, he gave me his email. I send a well-organized gripe of several pages.

For the first few months all I had to do was mention his name with his permission, and people suddeny became courteous and helpful.

6. Their service is atrocious. The picture is outstanding.
We have basic cable with Bright House because it comes with our phone internet package.

Bright House Networks service is excellent. They are really outstanding.

I have seen their HD picture, and we will stay with Dish for now.

Luckily not too much goes wrong, fingers crossed.

7. Their customer service is abysmal.
I waited so long on hold one time, the battery died in my cordless. I finally spoke to someone in India who kept saying that all I had to do was wait one more hour and the installer would be there. I had already waited 3 days. Here's a guy that's 10,000 miles away telling me that the installer who's based 3 miles from my house will be there in "one more hour". Turns out, they had my order confused with the guy who sold me the house. He moved to Nevada, the installer was in CA, and I could have waited until Sarah Palin's grandkid becomes president and I still would not have my Dish installed.

Luckily, I haven't needed any service since installation. What's infuriating is they won't let you call the service guy direct. He's 3 miles away and I have to call frickin' India to set an appt.

26. Yup, I Had A Couple Billing And Programming Issues...
when I first signed up. I got sick of waiting the fist time I called them so while I was on hold I fired up a chat-session. The problem solved before I even talked to a rep on the phone. I never called them on the phone again.

10. They do it. Should be done automatically by them. They goofed.
Rather on purpose or just careless. The picture is just super, so it was worth an hour of my life on the phone.

Their tech support is horrible.

13. Tell him to try 9511. My tech did not even know it was there.
They are not informed. Tell him to fix your receiver to get it, can be done in moments while you are on the phone.

19. That's awful. When I told them to check 9511...they still pretended
they did not know what to do. I told the supervisor that I would wait to talk to his superior. Then he decided he could authorize the receiver. If you have the Dish Silver plan it should be on your TV right now.

They can not be this poorly informed. I think there is more to it.

50. That means probably it is not in package you ordered.
It is in the Classic Silver plan, which is below the gold and platinum...

On mine it was red, which meant I did not have access...but I did and they admitted I did.

Then when I kept asking for their superiors to call me they finally figured how to authorize the receiver.

They do it over the phone.

12. FAUX is on basic everything.
MSNBC is Always in the higher tiers.
Dish was the ONLY media broadcast that had MSNBC in a lower tier. but now i find it seems to routinely "slip" off of my channel list. I seem to be calling dish monthly.

Someone there is playing around with the subscriptions.

16. Still waiting for DirecTV to get MSNBC-HD..........
I heard through the grapevine that they MAY be waiting to launch another satellite (D-12) to boost HD in late SEPTEMBER. But no one at their CS dept knows anything about it. I know Dish sucks, but its sounding better all the time.

I'll prolly have to seriously update my hardware before I play any new games. My PC does not support PCI Express2, so basically I'm looking at least a new MoBo, video and RAM. As long as I can still utilize my case and storage (I think my CPU should be good for a while), I may be able to do an upgrade for under a grand.

21. Seems like almost a worthwhile trade-off..........
where I live I can't get CBS or NBC on DirecTV because the local affiliates will not sign the waiver allowing me to get distant locals. They say I should be able to get their programming via off-air antenna, but I can't. They also refuse to come out and see for themselves (which is what they're supposed to do). I call shenanigans on the whole affair.

I had DISH and was under contract... I moved to my new place ... the guy who came to install the Dish at my new place could not get a signal (Buildings on all sides and we were not allowed to install Dish on Roof) ..


I had 7 months left ...But dish charged me for the duration of the Contract without providing me the service ...


So I hope the guy who made this decision at DISH goes bankrupt ... Sending Curses ....

such as this, but this case doesn't seem like Dish's fault. You signed a contract with them then opted out of it. I'm sure they provided you with equipment up front. They pay for that equipment buy signing customers to contracts.

The right thing was not force me to pay for seven months of TV without giving me the service ...

They could have installed a bigger dish or whatever they needed to do get the damn signal ... This was 5 years ago .. I am still angry about it.

34. You should have gotten a refund...people in your situation do all the time.
Sometimes they make it almost impossible when the customers are rude and nasty. Of course that wouldn't be what happened in your case, somebody at Dish wasn't following protocol.

33. It showed up on our receivers the other day, we didn't have to do anything.
My roommate is a Dish and Directv installer, he says it's different with different equipment and the firmware updating. Several people called him to ask and he found that a lot of viewers were only looking at their personal favorite (customized) guides and didn't see it listed...which it couldn't be if they didn't update the list.

There is no excuse for it being up there on 9511 and the tech and supervisor lying to me and pretending not to know it was there.

I am the one who sent them there and told them to unlock it so I could see it.

If I had not pushed we would not be seeing it yet.

It was not listed in anything accessible to us. I saw the 9511 here at DU in another thread.

This tells me the company does not have a clue and do not keep their techs informed.

They could take some lessons from Bright House Cable on service.

37. I was not defending poor customer support, I was trying to explain that
some people were only looking for the channel in their own -favorites- guide/listing and of course since they had never added it, it would not be there. I doubt the guy was lying, he probably was just another idiot. The tech support world is mostly populated by idiots...haven't you noticed?

I've noticed.

However, if Dish would start having more local service and concentrate on it....things would be better. Those two I talked to today had no clue about what I was saying. I read their own press releases...they admitted they had heard about it.

They did not know where MSNBC HD was on their network until I told them about seeing 9511 online.

Now to brag on Bright House. We have them for everything else. Phone, internet, and the other TVs.

If there is a problem they are right here on appt. Someone came to my home last Sunday and fixed something that turned out not to be a Bright House problem after all. No charge.

They specialize in service, while Dish does not.

40. My SO makes several calls to them every day...he has learned how to deal with idiots...
and how to recognize them real fast. When he reaches a doofus, he's found that the most efficient way to deal with it is just hang up and call back until he gets a rep who sounds halfway bright.

47. Keeping the MSNBC HD from showing when CNN and Fox are HD
is bound to have an effect on ratings.

The tech and supervisor had to know more than they did. It makes no sense they could not find the channel. I felt like it was insulting my intelligence.
