With a Constitutional Amendment, this would be a perfect time for Arnold to run for President.
This is something that's occurred to me recently that I've been thinking about.

Considering how weak and flawed the current field of Republican candidates is, and how hungry the country is (whether or not it knows it) for even a semblance of conciliation and bipartisanship.

It sickens me that Arnold was able to become the CA gov via recall, and that the Democratic party couldn't even field a candidate that could give him a halfway serious challenge.

I will have to say though that in my (superficial) observations of the guy, his political instincts are dead on. Even though it's a necessity in his state, Arnold is the only Republican politician of note to strike any note resembling bipartisanship, and tolerance on cultural issues.

I wonder what the guy is thinking these days, and whether he's trying to position himself in any way for 2012 in the event of an unpopular Democratic president.

I have little doubt that he has had the ultimate goal of becoming president when he got into politics. He strikes me as a guy who was attracted to the power associated, and who would want to go for the gold if possible. I bet the guy has been cultivating congressional allies since day 1 for a possible amendment in the event the Republican Party saw an Arnold candidacy as the key to getting back in power.

1. Arnold was placed in office
for one reason and one reason only. To deliver California in 2008. Not only will there not be a constitutional amendment any time soon to allow foreign born citizens to run for President, the Republican party will never support Arnold for President.

5. Yep, that married to a Kennedy thing would stop the wingers
Sadly, likely you are correct about him being placed in office to serve up those electoral votes.

Amusing front man not enough. We need leadership. Most old school Republicans are probably aware of that too.

2. It would be difficult, if not impossible, to get such an amendment
passed and ratified in time for the election of 2012.

3. I remember there was talk of amending Article II of the Constitution
to allow this very thing. I think it just went away, but I am not certain. Gawd. What a nightmare -almost as horrible as the idea of amending Article XXII

7. There was. Orrin Hatch was behind it and he seems to not
have the same problems with Arnold's sexual peccadilloes that he did with Clinton's. It brings the word hypocrisy to a new level, doesn't it?

8. Ahh I forgot it was Orrin. Why am I not surprised?
Wasn't he also the Senator who lead the charge against Anita Hill for daring to come forward with sexual harrassment charges against SCOTUS nominee Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearings?

Hatch is a piece of work and the poster child for RW hypocrisy

4. CA democratic legislators and labor unions keep the asshole in check..
He is a true nazi at heart. Given unbridled authority, he would have everyone except him and his cronies locked up and doing slave labor.

10. Yep. The only reason he turned into anything resembling a reasonable person
is because, politically, he *had* to. Thank the citizens of CA, not Ah-nold.

6. Oh Gawd! You thought Clinton and Monica were bad.
Edited on Sat Apr-07-07 02:01 PM by Cleita
Arnold has a trail of sexual assaults behind him as well as statuatory rape that he has paid off to go away. Monica was a consenting adult. Arnold is a sexual predator. Like we need someone like him to occupy the DOJ full time.

Arnold has done nothing for the state. Everything he said he was going to do that Grey Davis couldn't he hasn't been able to either. His seeming compromises are empty legislation that go without funding unless they benefit his corporate sponsors like the health insurance industry.

If there is an ammendment that let's him run for President, even though foreign born, then I am running against him too and so can many others who would make far finer Presidents than Arnold and can't run because they were born overseas.

12. The CA recall was a total joke from the beginning.
Even the guy who started it was a total right wing nutjob who chickened out of it because of DUI allegations. It was all a total partisan grab (you know those repukes, they cant stand fair elections... :eyes: ) and served no other purpose.
