U.S. Military Reports Deaths of 7 Troops
By Associated Press

From Comcast 1/27 5:00 CT

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military reported the deaths of seven more American soldiers Saturday, while Sunni insurgents bombed another market in a predominantly Shiite district, killing at least 13 people in a bid to terrorize Baghdad before a U.S.-Iraqi crackdown.

The U.S. deaths raised to at least 12 the number of service members killed in the past three days. The most recent seven deaths were the result of roadside bombs, two in Diyala province, two in Baghdad and three others at an unspecified location north of the capital.

All the names from the helicopter "crash" and kidnapping/executions last weekend are out; I have pictures and links for most.

The chopper carried two full colonels, a Lt Colonel, two captains, two Command Sgt Majors, two Staff Sgts, two SgtFC and one Corporal. One of the Colonels was the top American medical officer in Iraq. Most, if not all, were Nat Guard.

Of course there have been 28 MORE since those two incidents last weekend, most of the names only released in the past day or so, many still not.

4. There have been five more
since those seven.

Every once in a while an AP reporter with time on his/her hands puts together a story like the one yesterday and it gets dutifully picked up by all the "news" organizations. "Seven killed" was on every outlet all day yesterday and this morning.

The two more killed in the downed copter got some attention today because someone had cellphone video, and that was way cool to put on the air.

Damn it all to hell, every death is a tragedy and deserves to be reported as news, not just some talking head reading the AP feed off the teleprompter. This month looks like it will probably hit 90 - the seventh highest total of the war. That will make 3 of the top 7 in the past four months.

We are having 3-4 funerals a day in this country; the number is probably going to go up. The Patriot Riders attend and provide some security if the family wants them as the wackos from that so-called church in Kansas City show up to disrupt, taunt, and insult the families.

To every DUer: Please watch for victims in your area, and see if there is anything you can do for the families. One of the victims of last weeks copter crash was a father of five from Virginia. Another recent death is a man from El Paso who leaves a wife and a fifth-grade daughter. Another from Ohio had five teenage children.

As we struggle to find a way to stop the madness, we have to also try to support those left behind. There may just be someone in your town who could use a helping hand with something. The gesture could mean much more than the act. I am haunted by the story of the young wife who killed herself 3 months after her husband's death.

The Washington Post site has a "sort by state" function - then it lists by town.
