60: It's no longer merely the average IQ of the GOP side of the aisle ...
It's a veto-proof majority!

(And if it also results in O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Hannity, et al going into spontaneous vapor lock ... well, you can't have pork chops without butchering a few hogs.)

2. 60 is just a number and is so frequently overstated in its importance.
It is not an impenetrable firewall that allows Dems to do whatever they like. Won't happen. Time to face reality.

3. I worked on my first campaign in 1968, for RFK, and I've been around the block a few times since.

I should have known that since this is DU, it would take less than a couple of hours for posters to begin attempting to shut down the celebration. Let me to explain it to you. It is fucking significant that 60% of the senators elected by the American voting public have now been placed in office by citizens who repudiate the GOP brand.
Trust me Sparky, I know it's not an impenetrable firewall, but it does matter. Please forgive my irrational exuberance. Now, go on back to thinking very serious thoughts about very serious matters, and let the rest of us enjoy ... oh, I don't know ... 24 hours of well-deserved joy.

4. Even Al Franken himself just said that 60 is not a magic number,
that there will be Republicans who vote with Democrats as well as Democrats who vote with the Republicans (count on that one). Remember, that '60' also includes one Joe Lieberman who is not a Democrat.

This has nothing to do with shutting down any celebration, but simply facing reality. Franken believes his importance is in being the 2nd Senator from MN and the 100th Senator in the U.S. Senate. He didn't do a happy dance about being #60.
