Pawlenty will NEVER certify the election.
He has his eyes on the brass ring. The GOP will never give him the nod unless he plays ball. That means waiting for a new SCOTUS session,.... THAT means waiting for a confirmation of Sotomayor.

1. Yeah, he will. And he'll do it by Friday. And if he doesn't the
CJ of the MN SC is authorized to sign it. And no, in any case, it wouldn't mean waiting until a new SCOTUS session. You're wrong.

13. The new SCOTUS session will be used by Coleman ...
he'll do what he can to hold it up legally ... which means that he'll appeal it to the next higher court ... the SCOTUS ... which will have to wait until they reconvene ... and after a replacement has been confirmed ...

that's why the MN Supremes waited until the SCOTUS went out of session.

to prevent him from taking his seat in the Senate. pfft.

25. okay ... why then did they wait until the day after the SCOTUS ended their session?
Edited on Tue Jun-30-09 03:10 PM by zbdent
We've been waiting since, what, last Tuesday?

This way, they can help muck things up, but say "Hey, we ruled for him ..." and appear < - that's right, appear to be honest and honorable ...

I'm sorry ... I'm paranoid ... not clinically determined ...

3. The GOP hasn't got a chance if they don't give Pawlenty the nod
unless they're too stupid to understand that they'll have to moderate if they want to have a chance in '10 and '12. What would make a Repub look more moderate than one who gives a Dem his due?

4. Problem is, Pawlenty isn't a moderate. His actions hurt people.
The poor, homeless, children, battered women, and abused children have all suffered because of his cruel actions. He's a total pig and I hate, HATE him.

Besides, he's cross-eyed.

35. Of COURSE Pawlenty isn't a moderate--I'm saying that his being "nice" to a Dem
Edited on Tue Jun-30-09 03:47 PM by rocktivity
will help create the ILLUSION of his being one. He's the closest thing to a frontrunner the GOP has--and both he and the GOP know it.

On edit: This just in...

8. Yes And No...
I have already heard that Coleman's goons are running to the SCOTUS to file...once that's done the election is in "federal hands" and Palwenty will claim he still doesn't have the ultimate authorization...the Minnesota court gave him an out as they didn't instruct him to certify. So, yes, I expect Palwenty will still refuse to certify for most of the reasons you say.

Now it's up to the SCOTUS if they want to expedite this matter...and should. They can simply refuse to take the case and let the Minnesota court ruling stand. That's what I hope to happen. While there are those who think the fix is in on the SCOTUS, too...I don't see a political upside for the cons on the court...especially Kennedy.

Now Harry Reid can end this whole thing by putting Senator Franken's certification to a vote...but, as usual, he doesn't have the stones.

11. They (republican SCOTUS) don't care about the upside or downside, only
power and their side prevailing.

10. He'll certify it. The MNSC saved his ass with that ruling
Pawlenty can say he was only certifying it based on the orders of the Minnesota Supreme Court. And since several of those 5 justices that said "Sign the Cert" were Pawlenty appointed, his face was pretty much saved for that ruling.

You know, to remind us that you were wrong. If you are right you can take the opportunity to gloat, but you will have to wait for "never" to pass.

14. Pawlenty said yesterday (I TIVO'd it) he would sign but he left open a caveat
he made sure to say "if it is appealed to the Federal Courts I will have to see how that plays out" (paraphrasing but it's accurate)

19. Perhaps a concession speech from Coleman today?
Franken & Coleman - Press Conferences

Both men have scheduled news conferences for later today. Franken will address supporters at 5:15 p.m. ET at his home in Minneapolis and Coleman will speak from St. Paul at 4 p.m. ET.

sorry, no link - just info garnered from other sites - seems that they WILL do news conferences, and I am getting popcorn ready.

I'm sick of it. It's over. Franken won. He'll be sworn as soon as the Senate reconvenes, and take his seat.

Those who rain down negativism here on DU are not speaking for me or for a lot of other DUers, I'm certain. Phooey on them!
