If you help swiftboat Edwards, the Master Baiters win.
Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 06:10 PM by omega minimo
Their house of cards is toppling, their media and political lackeys are turning, investigations and trials are underway, Impeachment is on the table and people are marching in the streets.

The Master Baiters love it when we grab at every shiny meme they flash at us, every poisonous turd they float in the punchbowl.

Do you really want to fight them? Do you have the courage to ignore their Weapons of Mass Distraction?

:hi: :patriot: :woohoo:

38. I don't either.
But I DO care that he's saber rattling for war in Iran, was a co-sponsor for the IWR, never lifted a finger to author legislation as a senator to help the poor, doesn't correct the misinformation that he grew up poor rather than upper middle class and pretty much changes his mind to match whatever is political expedient.

Master Baiter, my ass.

The House is a stupid issue: let's talk about his REAL Faux Pas.

17. Not US swiftbotting him. He made a glaring mistake, conspicuous consumption while talking 2 Americas
It's a matter of US identifying a SHARP candidate who will NOT make glaring mistakes. I was totally loyal to JK while WAITING for him to counter-attack the swiftBOTS. I supported him because I thought he was the STRONGEST FIGHTER who would not put up with CRAP!!1

As for how JE acquitted himself in '04, he turned in a lackluster performance in his debates with CHEENEE the same as Joementum did in '00. How could he just sit there while CHEENEE said he had never even MET him at the Senate? Why didn't he ATTACK saying that they hadn't met because CHEENEE's extreme partisanship was such that he would not even gather with Dems for anything. He just sat there ands SQUIRMED.

It's not a matter of the house in itself. It's how he handed the a-holes an issue on a platter, gratuitously. It could be possible for him to dig himself out of the hole----bringing up data about Shrub's pig farm and CHEENEE's and RUMSFELD's various mansions.

His razor sharp mind knew that the pictures of the prayer breakfast would be all over the t.v. in a matter of minutes, sure enough. He remained cool under fire, not at all distracted. Taking the high ground in this instance made Cheney look like a very small man indeed.

24. Obama, Richardsen, Web, Kucinich. Better options.
Than somebody who voted for the stupid war.

If Edwards is not sensitive to the fact that some of us who are barely scraping might object to a new 30K sq. ft. manse then maybe he isn't presidential material.

Shit even dimsons handlers had the sense to make the Crawford house look like a regular ranch house even if it is three times the size. Half the damn thing is underground with service houses behind artificial hills. Then they have him pretend to cut brush.

Edwards can get his ass kicked six ways from sunday on "rich liberal who votes for the Iraq war and now wants to chicken out" call.

Sorry, NO!

Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 11:39 AM by lwfern
The folks who care about global warming and see a link between it and how we live are far more likely to appreciate Kucinich's choice of digs than Hillary's.

People seem to be having a hard time grasping the idea that if someone says "politicans should be environmentally responsible in their own lives" they mean "politicans should be environmentally responsible in their own lives" - not "Vote for Hillary."

44. I don't care about his House. I care about his views on Iran
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 12:00 PM by Tom Rinaldo
Iran is a real issue that Democrats should be debating. John Edwards is a candidate for President now running against other Democrats for our nomination. Since those of us who are Democrats on this board will soon have a democratic responsibility to choose who from out of a field of potentally good candidates to support, we will back over the others, we should be debating real issues. That is what Democrats do preceding a Democratic Primary.

The house Edwards built isn't anything that requires debate, but debate over the approach he believes America should take to Iran, which ultimately may determin War or Peace, is very much a real issue and worthy of discussion. It is not swiftboating to raise legitimate questions about that.

So many, in fact, it's a shame to see petty trivial nonsense dominate the board--
on the same petty trivial subject
from the same petty triival source.

Who decided that Jan. 27 was going to be "Piss on John Edwards Day"? Just because somebody throws out some muck doesn't mean DU has to roll in it. It was an important news week and a historic day-- could hardly tell from all the house threads.

Oh well. I wasn't gonna kick this but the last two posts were so strong and solid -- DU could use more of -- I wanted to thank you.

45. If there is a master conspiracy here...
then it's that of, by and for the rich to maintain their undisputed power over society, and Edwards is one of them, not the boo-hoo target.

You need to get out of your dichotomy; the Iranians (and others) who die won't care if it was Republican or Democratic bombs that rained down on their homes. I don't care about Edwards's house but honestly, to hell with all of the establishment candidates declared acceptable by the media because their rhetoric is smooth and their platform is unthreatening and they have shown their ability to play and raise cash within a rotten, rotten game. Everyone's real concern should be about restoring the spark of democracy - meaning, eliminating the effect of money on elections in the first place.

49. Great post. This is the point that makes the chatter over a house "petty and trivial"
You misunderstand the "dichotomy" though. The objection was to a "distraction du jour" -- not a defense of a "boo hoo target."

Focusing on Edward's wealth -- don't people know that Capitol Hill is run by multimillionaires? How much it costs to run for office any level, esp. for President? If only that topic led to a discussion of the points you made.

The events of the week and the day -- and you point out, the impending consequences of not paying attention to what the WH is doing -- were significant. Calling Edwards a hypocrite really wasn't. Your points about the reality of the situation shows WHY it is worth objecting to the pettiness when it drowns out everything else.

Esp. if it was a meme floated just to have the messy effect that it did.

"Everyone's real concern should be about restoring the spark of democracy - meaning, eliminating the effect of money on elections in the first place."

Well put. Thank you.
