Michael's Last day (s) awesome read
By S. JAMES SNYDER S. James Snyder – Mon Jun 29, 5:40 pm ET
Michael Jackson spent the last night of his life doing what he had always done: performing. The singer was in rehearsals at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, running through a full slate of songs from his upcoming 50-concert London event flanked by friends and colleagues. He marveled at the major set pieces that had finally been installed in the rehearsal space. "He was just glowing, and you could see it, that he was finally seeing it all come together," says Dorian Holley, the vocal director for Jackson's upcoming tour. "Up until Wednesday, it had always been , but that last day you could see it in him, that he was seeing the show finally come together for the first time. It was a big moment." (See TIME's complete Michael Jackson coverage.)

1. wow
This time around, we had the technology to isolate just his microphone and listen to his singing separate from everything else. I had no idea what a genius he was. The way he's able to use his voice as a percussion instrument, lyricist, jazz singer all at the same time. I'm sure as people mine his works in years to come, they're going to discover how much is there," he says.

Edit: I was listening while posting so didn't realize rap had been mixed in at the end. But that is a young MJ singing.

And another edit to add a 1972 acapella of "Got to be There". Fantastic stuff!

5. They have the rehearsals on tape. Expect a huge media cash cow exploitation-fest
when enough time has gone by that they can promote it and put it in primetime.

9. I think they'd sell it on DVD 1st for $20 then put it on TV early next year
after they sell the DVD in about 5 months at Christmas (if they can do it fast enough, but that'd be the 2nd thing they'd work on after his next studio release). be interesting to see. I watched the video of him from youtube with the visit to the US troops at Japan army base & him flying around in the helicopter. ha... it was interesting! he was a lil nervous.

7. I've gotten more sad over MJ's death with the passing days, not less....
....as I learn things about his life that I didn't know before, remember things about him that I'd forgotten back in the 80's, and especially now, to see what he was working on at the time of his death. A concert tour meant to raise awareness about caring for and protecting the planet would have been much-needed and very welcome.

It's tragic to think that his childhood screwed him up to the point where even his closest friends couldn't reach or help him - not his siblings, not his wives, not Deepak Chopra, nor anyone else who cared about him; that for all of his fame and wealth he died millions of dollars in debt; that for all his talent and brilliance he lived by all accounts a haunted and unhappy life. There's a lesson in there somewhere for the rest of us, I think. I just hope he had some joy in his life, had some times when he really could take pleasure in all he'd achieved.

10. he got some at the announcment this year of his shows in London - the crowd was immensely loud
he appeared quite thankful - and he probably thought wow, they still love me. that was good for him, I'm sure. I read he was very happy when the big set pieces for his show were put in place a couple weeks ago, and he got to see them, and made comments like it's all coming together and was excited. At least he died at a time in his life when he appeared to be very happy.

21. Same here. The way Joe Jackson abused his family, esp the kids has always made me sad
and since MJ has died, - like you - remembering all I'd previously read about his/their lives and now, adding new knowledge of what kind of life he'd had later - I'm even sadder.

I just hope he's at peace finally. :(

12. Yeah, the London concerts is what has upset me somewhat...
I wasn't going to the shows and didn't think about it much, like I'm not a superfan or anything, but I just really hoped he would come back and it would be amazing. You know? Like I feel like all of us were rooting for him to really pull off this last big hurrah, so it kind of is disappointing because of that.

It will be fun to see the video of his last rehearsal to see if the voice and the dancing really is still there. That will help me feel better than some of the other reports of him not being able to walk and barely being able to talk and stuff. I'm sure in the next week or so we'll get some short clips of him onstage in that last rehearsal.

16. Sheer genius
Regardless of what anyone thinks about Michael Jackson, the sheer musical genius of him cannot be denied.

I truly hope that he had some sense that his genius was appreciated.

20. I saw some of the pictures. He looked good!
Why do some haters keep saying he looked "pale and gaunt?" Maybe compared to other people, but MJ looked like his usual self! And he did look very happy :(

22. Caught this video last night...
...on the menu channel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_hz2am90Hk
Don't Stop Till You Get Enough

What struck me was the absolute JOY in performing that came through.
Not just the amazing dance moves (I watch the Classic Arts channel and so have learned...a little...to appreciate the sheer amount of WORK that goes into that 'effortless' grace), or the incredible craftsmanship of the music.

Michael pushed up the sleeves of that jacket, smiled, and then proceeded to ROCK...and glow like a nuclear reactor as he did so.
:wow:

Wish he could have been allowed to do this one more time...hope he's found some peace now.
