Obama Is Breaking Another Promise
If he doesn't draw a line in the sand on the public plan option, he will be allowing the big money lobbyists dictate policy.

Where is that vaunted promise of the lobbyists no longer running things?

He has to power to stop that, and he isnt't.

He is doing the will of the insurance company lobbyists.

The insurance companies are writing the damned thing.

What we have seen come out of the commerce committee is the equivalent for the insuarnce companies what the "bankruptcy reform" bill was for credit card companies.

Obama knows the legislature too, whatever the insurance companies have pressured
the Senators to add in the bill would be picked up by him, so throwing up temper
tantrum on him not demanding or fighting for public option on a bill he has not
seen is just hogwash...IMO.

53. I'm remembering several instances when Preznit Bush threatened a veto when his pet bills
were not looking so good. That's a good example of drawing a line in the sand.

If this reform is so important and the President is behind it but will not put his full weight behind it, I don't think that's Congress' fault. Sometimes Congress needs to see that there is a real leader in the White House who will go to the mat with them if they aren't doing the right thing. In this instance, President Obama appears to be backing down.

Instead of name calling which you seem to excel at I have actually looked for results. It is obvious you have not. I asked you a simple question and instead of answering you chose to cast insults. Name one Brigade that has been withdrawn since Obama became President if you can, or is that too intellectually taxing for you? There are several Brigades that are getting new designations from Combat to support though.

He doesn't have control of lobbyists running things. He can make law making transparent, prevent ex-legislators from immediately becoming lobbyists, etc, but until campaign finance stops contributions, we're sunk.

"Where is that vaunted promise of the lobbyists no longer running things?"

He meant no longer influencing (and controlling) the White House.

We had 8 years of lobbyists influencing Bush Admin policies. Halliburton might as well have been in charge of the Iraq War, considering how much influence it wielded with Cheney and Rumsfeld in the 'reconstruction'.

37. to answer someone's comment about having the President draw a line in the sand, then lose.
If that happens, with the President going on national teevee and explaining how important the public option is and all the great reasons he supported it, AND with the percentage of Americans he has behind him on this, we would see some serious reshuffling of the deck chairs when the next election cycle came around.

So, my question is, if we can't get a public option or single payer, what difference does it make if we get an industry-written bill that gets vetoed and is not overridden? That leaves us free to start all over next session--with more ammo.
