Repubs rush to rid themselves of Bush legacy...
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 09:34 AM by kentuck
Everything is now Obama's fault.

Granted, President Obama will eventually have to take credit or blame for his policies. However, the Repubs want to blame him for the continuing mess in the financial markets. They want to blame him for the huge debt and deficits. They want to blame him for the loss of jobs in this recession.

But the facts are another matter. The banks were near collapse. Our entire financial system was near collapse. Our entire capitalist system was under threat when George W Bush left office.

President Obama did not inherit a surplus of $270 billion dollars, as did President Bush. He did not inherit a 4.1% unemployment rate, as did President Bush. He inherited a monumental mess. There is no denying of that fact.

Several times in the last eight years, the Bush Administration and the Repubs raised the debt limit to fund their wars and taxcuts. They added about $5 trillion dollars to the national debt. And they left a growing debt to Barack Obama, with the bailouts and the terrible economy. The Republicans left this on his doorstep.

How long will it take to clean up their mess? Surely, longer than six months. That is obvious.

We can debate whether or not the President made the right decision by bailing out the banks or with his stimulus program or whatever, but he is trying to fix the problem. It is a monstrous task.

The unemployment rate continues to outpace any policy created to curb it. The debt is like a fire-breathing dragon, sucking up everything in its wake. These are the underlying realities of any policy put forth by the Obama Administration. Can they fix health-care in this environment? Can they create enough jobs to keep our country out of a depression? Can they parry the thrusts of blame from the Republicans?

We are in for a long and rough journey. Barack Obama cannot fix it in 6 months. He may not be able to fix it in a full term? Such is the damage left in the disaster of the last Bush Administration. The Republicans are rushing to blame Obama for their own lingering failures. The taxcuts, the wars, the laissez-faire marketplace, the imperialism, the foreign replacement of our job markets, etc, etc. And they will fight to their death his attempts to change any of these policies. That is the political reality we now face.

1. For those with memory of fleas and those who see only what they want to see it is Obama's fault.
Even if he makes things better in 4 to 8 years they will take the credit and heap it on Zippy the Prezeldent.

Just laugh at them. We all know deep down who fucked up...even the FReeps. They just don't want to admit it because this is some kind of patriotic pissing contest for them.

4. "It's Communism!"
"The founding fathers were Evangelical Christians!"

"Obama is trying to take away our guns!"

"There is no such thing as global warming!"

"Supple Side/Trickle Down Economics Work!"

"More Tax Cuts!"

"There is nothing wrong with our medical system!"

"Iraq was behind 9-11!"

"We must keep up the war in Iraq so those who died didn't die for nothing!"

"Liberals hate America!"

"We're number 1!"

"Education isn't important!"

"Gay Marraige will destroy the foundations of marraige!"

"Walmart is a All Americans!"

"Unions are destroying American industry."

"Where is the birth certificate!"

"Bush/Cheney kept us safe!"

The list goes on and on. Sound bytes repeated with no substance. A quick "How?" or "Why?" falls on deaf ears.

Bust of Julius Caesar found in the River Rhone near Arles
Julius Caesar lived from 100BC - 44BC

Oldest known bust of Caesar found

Divers in France have found the oldest known bust of Roman dictator Julius Caesar at the bottom of the River Rhone, officials have said.

--snip--

A group of republican senators assassinated Caesar in 44BC.

"I suspect the bust was thrown in the river after he was assassinated because it would not have been good at that time to be considered a follower of his," said Mr Long.

7. It is not possible to prove a negative...
However, if John McCain had been elected, we can only guess how the markets would have reacted? Would he have handled the financial crisis differently? Would the unemployment rate have been even deeper? Would the stock market have crashed and burned? Would we already be in a panic and depression? We cannot prove any of those things, but from his similar philosophy, that got us into this mess, we can only guess that it would have been much worse right now.
