2. No, she can do what she wants
By resigning she has proved she is even above the Justice Department and answers to a higher authority.

 :sarcasm:

7. Ok, so I will play the ijut in the room and ask....
1. Will she be subpoened and will she have to testify?

2. Can she still take the 5th?

3. If she does perjure herself or it is shown she provided false testimony to someone else who went under oath, can she be imprisoned? (of course, she will have to 'plea' bargain with gonzo's head)

I admit, I have no clue as to what the answers are to the above so leave it to the hands of those here at DU who will.

Thanks in advance for the education.

9. This is a big sign that she can no longer hide behind the Justice Dept. Letter here
She can take the 5th but only on questions that incriminate her,
she can not take the fifth as a reason not to show
she can go to prison.

In a brief letter to Gonzales, Goodling gave no reason for her resignation but said it would be effective Saturday.

"I am hereby submitting my resignation to the Office of the Attorney General, effective April 7, 2007. It has been an honor to have served at the Department of Justice for the past five years," Goodling wrote.

13. Her resigning doesn't change anything except it might make things worse
for Bush.

She can still be subpoened.
If subpoened, she'll still have to testify.
If there are individual questions she can't answer without incriminating herself, she is free to plead the 5th -- on those individual questions.
She can be given immunity from prosecution and then be forced to testify.
If she perjures herself she can go to prison.

The bad news for Bush/Gonzales is that they will be less able to control her. The loyalty ties have just snapped.

14. Goodling
1 She has already been subpoenaed. That's why she had to take the 5th.
2 Yes, unless the house committee grants her immunity.
3 trials and plea bargains are too far down the road to tell, but by invoking the 5th her law liscense may be history.

6. You'd think this makes it even more likely she'll be subpoenad
I can't see Leahy and Schumer settling for anything less at this point. That's probably why she's resigned.

But who knows. Up is down and black is white these days.

12. I agree she was hiding behind the Justice department
I think they cut her strings to cut their losses.

5. CNN is also reporting that she has resigned, effective tomorrow.
It's to bad anybody has to take the fall for somebody like Alberto.

8. Says she's resigning...Is the same type of "resigning" that Kyle Sampson experienced?
Especially since Sampson was actually reassigned, by Gonzo, to just a different position... hmmmm

10. OK, folks, I've been in Hawaii since March 11th and not keeping up with the news.
So far, I count about eleven positions just in these few responses.

This leaves me thoroughly confused, but I have unpacking to do, so I'll wait for next week's better digestion of this stuff.

15. CNN is jumping through hoops to avoid covering the Goodling
resignation. They just did a story on a garbage truck that caught fire in New Jersey and started a grass fire, somewhat slowing trafic....Pathetic.
