Why did M$NBC pull Ed Shultz, the person who sticks up for healthcare on
the day of the big Healthcare march to cover Michael Jackson who is recieving the best medical care... But apparently he's dead.. Why are we covering such a non-essential has-been 80's pop star who loved young boys? Is this the most fucked up b.s. in the world? FAIL media.

1. Jackson was a huge celebrity
I completely understand why MSNBC is covering this instead of airing Ed.

4. I'm no fan of Michael Jackson, but he is a celebrity of world renown
sure, his best days were in the 80s, but he was still a huge media figure. I have no problem with MSNBC pre-empting Ed Schultz to cover his death.

19. I didn't say conspiracy.. I just said non-essential. MJ is just not important
in the big picture. It deserves a line or two. Maybe 5 mins. If it makes your radar special to cover him like this, I apologize.

13. I hate media death watches - so morbid and so stupid
But what do we expect with the dumbing down of the news? This gets the news companies out of having to actually cover real news, just like the Sanford circus yesterday and Farrah Fawcett's death today.

I do have to consider that for many, Michael Jackson has been a top celebrity and entertainer for as long as they have been alive. There is no other singer that has had some many songs and albums on the top of the charts as long as he has, I'd guess since Elvis. Everything involving Jackson has been a media circus for decades, why should his death (if that is what has happened) be any different?

23. Yes, insult my parents for instilling in me a sense of balance and relevance.
This is not relevant in most people's world. The 80's is 20years past. His family is probably upset. His fans may be sad for the loss. But he is not relevant for this kind of coverage; neither was his trial.

31. Its been on for 36mins... this is insane. Next they will be doing a 2 hr special
on the "life of Michael". AND knowing this country, more people will watch that than pay attention to the healthcare debate or wallstreet robbing the treasury.

35. Yes, more people will follow this and other celebrity stories more than they will
follow the type of news you referenced. That, indeed, is a shame. It's also how we ended up with George W. Bush.
However, I do think we can spare a few hours on the death of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett.

16. Non-essential has-been 80's pop star?
Let's just look at the late 1960s and the 1970s:

I Want You Back
ABC
The Love You Save
I'll Be There
Dancing Machine
Shake Your Body
Ben
Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough
Rock With You

I understand your concern, but this isn't just some random no-name pop star. This is MICHAEL F**KING JACKSON. Yes, he was a total nutjob, but he made some of the most classic pop records of all time. He's a (well-deserved) musical legend.

21. While I agree when comparing the importance of the two stories, it is BREAKING news
as it just happened.

And Michael Jackson is one of only a small handful of celebrities who are known in every far corner of the earth.

Not something I'm going to run to the TV for, but it is news.

Like I said in a previous post this will be all over the news for the next week or so.
