When you consider Michele Bachmann ..........
.... consider what sort of persons, on their own free will, voted for her. In sufficient numbers for her to win and win again.

3. You have to understand her gerrymandered district.
It scoops up some of the most solidly Republican areas of Minnesota, and totally avoids touching the Democratic strongholds in the Twin Cities inner metro. In this district live many people who really do think that Democrats kill and eat babies, among other things. When Bachmann goes on her loony rants, a large number of people in MN-6 are nodding their heads in agreement.

There are also some serendipitous facts in her favor - "Bachman" (just one N) is the name of a very famous chain of garden centers here in MN. It's a family business, has been for generations, and people have a positive opinion of the name and undoubtedly thousands vote for her thinking she's part of that family.

Second, in this past election, the Independence Party in MN is still pretty strong (Ventura's coattails are still alive), and even though the party FORMALLY ENDORSED the Democrat, El Tinklenberg, some doofus ran under the IP party banner. His last name was Anderson or something like that. Solid Scandinavian name, which of course is "comfortable" for a lot of Minnesotans. So undoubtedly a few people who couldn't vote for Bachmann at least recognized a nice familiar name and cast their vote for him. (His votes plus El's votes would have beaten Bachmann, sadly.)
