Exist-gate. What do you think?
If you've been following the story surrounding Pennsylvania State Senator John Eichelberger's comment that "we are allowing them
to exist," you may be aware that there has been some outcry from the public but no action from our public leaders. My State Senator acknowledged my complaint, but there's been nothing beyond private exchanges. No statements. No calls for an apology.
What we do have is the dialogue around the lives of Pennsylvania's LGBTQ residents being hijacked by those outside of our community.
My prediction? If nothing happens in response to this comment, every single LGBTQ resource we possess (which are few at this point) will be pulled away from securing civil rights and poured into beating back the marriage amendment.
I have a modest outline of what I think might be helpful at Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents.
Here's hoping Ellen DeGeneres picks up the phone to call Senator Eichelberger as she did Sally Kern whom I see is roaring back, further evidence that accepting silence from our leaders is not a good idea.
