Gov. Sanford's wife just put out a statement
Gov. Sanford's wife apparently just put out a statement saying she asked him to leave two weeks ago.

You can read the whole statement here.

Here's the key passage ...

I believe wholeheartedly in the sanctity, dignity and importance of the institution of marriage. I believe that has been consistently reflected in my actions. When I found out about my husband's infidelity I worked immediately to first seek reconciliation through forgiveness, and then to work diligently to repair our marriage.
We reached a point where I felt it was important to look my sons in the eyes and maintain my dignity, self-respect, and my basic sense of right and wrong. I therefore asked my husband to leave two weeks ago.

This trial separation was agreed to with the goal of ultimately strengthening our marriage. During this short separation it was agreed that Mark would not contact us. I kept this separation quiet out of respect of his public office and reputation, and in hopes of keeping our children from just this type of public exposure.

Because of this separation, I did not know where he was in the past week.

I believe enduring love is primarily a commitment and an act of will, and for a marriage to be successful, that commitment must be reciprocal. I believe Mark has earned a chance to resurrect our marriage.

28. Let's not tell her what to do....
I, for one, am glad she didn't stand next to him during his appalling, maudlin mea culpa press conference today.
I have no idea what she should do. I have no idea what makes their relationship work. I got thoroughly sick of hearing people say that the reason they couldn't support Hillary Clinton for President was because she hadn't divorced Bill. Yes, they may (the Sanfords) be co-dependents, she may be enabling his evil behavior, she may like the fame and fortune (!!???)
that goes along with being married to a successful (formerly) politician....still...Let's not tell her what she should do. There are those four little innocent kids to consider.

30. She's really no different than millions of other women.
Man after man promises their woman they will never do it again (and they won't, until next time) and beg forgiveness, and woman after woman takes them back--again. Democrats, Republicans, they're all the same in this respect.

3. Did she ask him not to tell anyone else in the office, too?
This may be a wee bit of an understatement, but something about all this just doesn't add up.

5. She's gonna give him a second chance huh? Well, ...
it's their marriage. I got the impression today that he is really smitten with the mistress. I think it's one of those "I just can't help myself" kind of things. Sad for the wife and kids.

Unfortunately, it takes two to tang-- Oh, I'm so sorry, Mrs. Sanford...

13. She throws him out and he hightails it for his mistress...
If he gave a damn, he'd of stuck around and sent her roses twice a day and phoned her every hour on the hour begging to give him another chance. I think he's in love. Sadly, just not with her.

27. Does anyone know it was a mistress?
Her statement is strange never the less. Where do these Republicans find these partners? I guess the affair with whatever goat/pig/man/boy/girl/woman must be ok because Argentina is at least a Christian Country.

Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 04:22 PM by marylanddem
The high-minded tone of this is kind of annoying.

She asked him to leave, but she'll take him back and give him "a chance to resurrect our marriage."
I would suspect she's hopeful of staying in the fancy governors mansion.

It also sounds like she's not facing the sad reality that he is in love - whatever being in love means to Republicans - with the mysterious Argentinian...

15. If she takes him back it will be ...

... because the rethuglican party chipped in a hell of a lot of money to sweeten the pot and make it worth her while to make everything look good for appearance's sake. The GOP knows their back is up against the wall and they just can't handle any more scandals. Look for them to quietly divorce a few years from now when all the headlines fade away.

...and while apart, the asshole flies off to Argentina to get a piece of tail.

:eyes:

If this woman takes him back...they should make the next Stepford Wife movie based on her life.

17. Alrighty then, just to be sure I understand this...
Mrs. Sanford asked her husband to leave two weeks ago and not contact them because of his affair so....he doesn't even wait a week before jetting off to Argentina to be with his other woman which means, to his wife, he has EARNED a chance to resurrect their marriage?

:wtf:

19. She's requesting the media leave her alone. I'm sorry, but she managed her husband's campaigns
and said NOTHING while he was judging others who did what he just did. She endorsed him in that if she did not speak out against it. She wasn't *just* a wife - she was managing his campaign.

Her kids shouldn't be bothered by the media, but she and her husband are fair game. Unfortunately, that will end up having some negative impact on the kids, but that is the choice they made when they did the same to others.

"This is a very painful time for us and I would humbly request now that members of the media respect the privacy of my boys and me as we struggle together to continue on with our lives and as I seek the wisdom of Solomon, the strength and patience of Job and the grace of God in helping to heal my family."

31. Translation from Republicanwife-ese to English.
He's a good father,(except for the part where he spent Father's Day with his mistress' sons), and I'm not finished pulling his wings out yet...and then there's the big fat settlement on the line for later on.. In republican wife-land it's better to have a "castrated" unhappy husband, than to go it alone, show some pride, and let the kids know that some wrongs cannot be undone with a few crocodile tears from a "caught-man".
