A Day in the Life of Freeperland (June 24) (Warning: might leave you in stitches)
Who cares where he went? He is an adult living in a free land and his comings and goings are his business.

Who gives a crap? This is just smoke and mirrors by the MSM propagandists to deflect attention....Cap and tax is next folks...stay focused on the ball and forget the freak shows.

A cruise ship can’t get to Argentina and back in five days. People are overreacting on this story. We need to settle down and see what comes out of it.

Maybe I missed something but isn’t the problem that OTHER people were speculating on where he was and now he’s cleared it up? Didn’t he have a communication path back to his office? On MSNBC they are treating this like it’s as serious as John Edwards’ affair in terms of derailing a potential GOP candidate. I admit it. I don’t understand why this is a “scandal.”

Look, if he told his staff to lie about where he went and the “hiking the AT” story comes out to be a lie he asked his staff to tell, then yeah, he’s toast for 2012 and deservedly so. But I’m not going to push the panic button until then.

Trust nothing the media reports on Sanford or Palin. Nothing.

Aren’t you amazed at how many people there are who think this guy has to answer to them?

Who cares....He’s a big boy....It’s kinda like a hamburg run without the press....

Everyone is entitled to a little free time and most of his constituents agree with me.

As SC resident and as someone who has voted for Mark Sanford in multiple primaries, three Congressional general elections and two Gubernatorial general elections, I will say I have no problem he took the trip, but I would feel better if his staff and wife could say they knew where he was. If no one really knew he was in South America, then that makes me feel a little uneasy about Mark Sanford’s judgment, and I am his biggest fan.

Again, I could care less except this guy has presidential asparations. If he went on a cruise without his wife, then you have to wonder who he went on the cruise with? I mean, really no one goes on a cruise alone do they? I don't want to find out that he's a closeted gay or some party boy with wild women when he becomes our nominee in 2012. I want to find out now.

This is really a tempest in a teapot. Don't governors have a right to take a vacation? Obvioiusly, if you read the story, at least one of his aides knew where he was and was in contact with him, which is why he cut his trip short....He is a viable Presidential candidate in 2012. The Dems would like to destroy him in much the same way that they have attacked Palin. The MSM is part of that effort. If I were Sanford, I would just tell them to f**k off and ignore it.

I curious to know how a reporter ‘found’ him at the Atlanta airport? Was the reporter tipped off by obama? After all, the US government knows who is coming into the US before they arrive. Tin-foil alert!!!

South Carolina has some strange politicians, Sanford being one, and that boy-man senator Lindsey Graham.

Stop making unfounded accusations against one of our finest Governors when you don’t know the facts. I’m fed up with the lies and IDIOT so-called FReepers who jump to the side of the leftist media when these NON-stories pop up smearing our best and brightest. I’m also fed up with the contingent of Sanford-haters on this board.

So, this isn't really so bad. He may have had an argument with his wife and needed to get away for a while. That is why she didn't know where he was. I suspect it was some lefty 'reporter' who threw in the phrase "cruising in his car" so to create false speculation that he was out looking for guys or some such craziness.

Let's get real here. The Governor is not like the President. He doesn't have the nuclear football and must be available at a moment's notice. Sanford was hours away from SC. He could easily respond to any emergencies. All governors travel around the US and overseas.

Looks like the guy had a nervous breakdown or something. He's under alot of pressure.....its happened to others. Give him some space.

And I'm still shrugging. We're playing "Where's Sanford". And I never liked "Where's Waldo". Because it doesn't matter until they show he did something he shouldn't. I don't know where the other 49 Governors were either. Because their enemies didn't make it an issue.

That is why they have a Lt Gov. By the way, Sanford’s number two is the loudest critic of this episode. Eventhough they are both Pubbies, Bauer is a political rival and enemy. If the actual facts ever come out I bet his wife knew what he was up to but didn’t want to reveal it to a nosy press and self righteous public. One final thought; voters don’t own elected officials.

Sanford admits he never hiked!

The story, apparently, is that he went "cruising" in his CAR, not on a ship. Some left-wing "reporter" probably threw in the phrase "cruising in his car" to make people THINK he was out looking for guys.

There’s no proof there WAS any irresponsibility. This entire thing is a NON-story by the media out to destroy opponents of the fascist regime in DC.

I was watching Morning Joe this morning & Chrissy Matthews was talking about this story. He had his usual psychotic $hit-eating grin on his face & said - look at the Republican presidential field, Palin, Sanford & Jindal - what a bunch! The media is deliberately going after these guys, to eliminate them in 2012. I'm withholding judgment on this Sanford story for now. I smell a rat.

All I see is another SLEAZY media attack on our best and brightest over a NON-story... and FReepers who take the bait and join in on the bash. Doesn’t speak well to them.

All you’re hearing is media propaganda against him. We don’t know the facts, and I certainly don’t trust the media to report them. Wait until you’ve heard from the source before passing judgment.

Report: Missing South Carolina Governor Traveled to Argentina, Not Appalachian Trail

Contribute to and proliferate the media lies, propaganda and bashing and I’m gonna call you on the carpet for it. You don’t know the facts.

You don’t know the facts as to what exactly happened. We don’t know anything except a blizzard of lies and distortions from leftist media sources out to destroy ALL viable challengers to Zero. I’d hate to have you on a jury.

Sounds like he might have a girlfriend...or something.

I may be proven wrong, but as a constituent of Gov. Sanford, and an unabashed admirer of his political style, I say it's more likely he's been holed up somewhere with a group of like-minded American Patriots, crafting a set of "21st Century Federalist Papers", figuring out how we can turn President "Present" out of the White House before we all end up in the crapper. I'd certainly believe that before I'd believe Chris(tina) Matthews projecting his personal fantasies about traipsing through the forest naked. He has opponents in SC, even on his side of the aisle, who didn't like him upsetting their personal little apple carts, who love to deride him at the drop of a hat for challenging SC political orthodoxy. But he's by far the best Governor in this country right now (OK, maybe maybe tied for 1st w/Palin). Until proven otherwise, my experience with the man leads me to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I’ve seen nothing but conflicting stories from the moment this came out. I know both he and Palin are the biggest targets for 2012 by the media, and frankly, they will just drag up or make up anything to derail them, and too many of us will simply BELIEVE what they write. We cannot and should not pass judgment here until we know exactly what happened. From my own gut, the first time I saw this, it appeared to be a non-story. The media loves to see the GOP cannibalize itself, it’s just so easy to do it.

You are making a lot of assumptions. How old are his children? Who really knows whether his wife knew or not? I suspect she did otherwise she would have been more concerned. If Sanford’s chief of staff knew where he was, I can be fairly confident so did his wife, especially after the MSM made a big story out of it and Sanford had to curtail the trip.

Yeah ... I hope there is no girlfriend ... maybe a religious retreat or something, but ... I’m just waiting for him to hold a press conference to say he’s having an extramarital affair and plans to resign — JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER G*DDAMN POLITICIAN SEEMS TO DO BE DOING LATELY!

Are there any real Patriots left in our country?

Perhaps he DID tell Lt. Gov Bauer. Bauer and Sanford are well known to NOT like each other...maybe Bauer knew exactly where Sanford was and was told to “man the helm” while he was gone, but Bauer used it as a political opportunity to sabatoge Sanford by acting as if he knew nothing, making up stories to make Sanford look irresponsible, when in fact Bauer knew all along what was going on.

I trust nothing that has been “reported” about him by the media, nor from RINOs in his own state. Nothing. As a comment was made, this was making a mountain out of a molehill. I cannot believe how hysterical FReepers are acting over something they don’t have the facts about. One thing is for sure, if this is typical reaction towards our best and brightest based on a non-story and lack of facts, it’s gonna be real easy to destroy Palin in ‘12 when more things will be made up by the media and the haters to sink her. Sad.

I think you are right, it's the media attempting to smear a potential presidential candidate “before” he becomes one. Where was Barney Frank or or Rangle or any other liberal democrat politician who hasn't been seen in 4 days. Let's start calling for their whereabouts and demanding to see them. I am CERTAIN the “banking queen” is up to no good.

The whole thing seems to be a tempest in a teapot via pop culture. I wouldn’t be at all surprised that this is also an attempt by the leftists to smear this guy.

Far as I can tell, Sanford was in contact with his chief of staff during the entire trip. I would guess he was also in contact with other government officials as well as his wife. My wife would gladly lie to scumbags (media, lawyers, etc) if I asked her to. The problem seems to be that he went out of contact with the media, and those in the know similarly dicked the media around. Big no-no. That is like not paying tribute to the mob.Now the MSM has a story, which benefits the MSM on its own. Bonuses include the fact that he is a Republican (never miss an opportunity to denigrate the opponents of the MSM Party), he is right-wing (worse to the MSM than being a Republican - at least a RINO supports key parts of the MSM Party platform) and that he is widely believed to have presidential aspirations.

You enjoy giving credibility to such sleazy accusations when you don’t know the facts ? It is amazing how easy it is for Conservatives to kneecap our best and brightest when the media yells “boo.” Do you always swallow whatever the media tells you about our people without question ?

The comments in this thread make me wonder if FReepers haven’t been replaced with DU’ers this morning, how gleefully they aid and abet the smearing of a decent man based on biased reporting and half-truths. This is precisely why so many Conservatives don’t bother to run for office. If we don’t even circle the wagons with our best leaders to give them the benefit of the doubt until all the facts are in when so-called “stories” like this come out, it doesn’t speak well to us. I’m truly ashamed at what I’ve seen in this thread. I wonder how many will personally apologize to Gov. Sanford if this turns out to be exactly what I’ve said... a non-story ?

Unfortunately, there are some really wild rumors flying about this.

Everybody is thinking the worst. I’m wondering if he wasn’t in Argentina on state business that had to be kept discrete.

What discourages me is that fellow Republicans in SC—guys like Bauer and Knotts—have used a compliant, Sanford-hating press to take what is, at worst, a somewhat bonehead move by Sanford and turn it into some massive scandal. And what’s worse, now look at all the FReepers piling on—he’s “cruising for young boys?” He’s gay? He’s having an affair? What the HELL, people. You’re letting the liberal media stampede you any direction they want! USE YOUR BRAINS, FOLKS!

Sorry to vent -- I'm sure there's NO girlfriend (crossing fingers). I just hate that most politicians can't seem to keep their PECKER in their pants, and ignore the fact they are risking their family, their political career (unless they're a Dem) and their Party for their indiscretions. I'm sure Sanford has a legitimate reason, which, IMO he does NOT necessarily have to divulge. You just know, if/when he does, reporters will be climbing all over each other to verify his story. The freakin' NY Times will fly the reporters in, just like they did Palin. I can see it now -- reporters repelling down a rope from the helicopter, with notepad and laptop in tow, to talk to anyone who may have been a witness to Sanders disappearance! If he's asked at the next press conference where he was, he should ask reporters why Obama has STILL not divulged his records from Occidental, Columbia and Harvard. Let them choke on that question ... or ignore it -- like they would anyway.

We don’t know the facts. Why are YOU in such a rush to destroy him ? You destroy our best and brightest based on dubious crap like this, and you’re gonna have nothing left. Every bash on this thread makes the media and this current fascist regime that much stronger. Is that what you want ?

If the rodents were held to the standard with which Sanford is being held to by the media and their so-called “reporting”, there wouldn’t be any in office. No one would want to run for office. There has NEVER been any allegations made against Sanford in his career about infidelity. None. To see the speculation is incredible. Cannibalizing ourselves. Really makes me ashamed. No wonder we can’t get any decent people to run for office when they can be slimed so easily, yet the bad guys will run because they have no sense of shame.

I cant believe the trust some still have concerning the drive-by media.

Maybe the revolution is getting ready to start and he was on a secret planning mission. Come on guys, he simply did what we all wish we could do at one time or another. The state was in good hands. I felt safe. You know his wife knew where he was at. She was just protecting him, as a good wife will. To maintain your sanity you have to take a break. If we all did this we would be much better off. A truly good leader has an organization that works just as well whether he is their or not. I live in South Carolina, I noticed no change in services while he was gone. Looks like he had everything under control

How do the facts not shine a good light on him? Let’s review those facts:

1. Sanford DID tell his staff and family where he was going.
2. Because he was traveling without a security detail, it was in his best interests that no one knew he was gone.
3. His political enemies — Republicans at that — ginned up the media story.
4. When confronted by a pestering media, things went downhill.
5. Again though, at all times there was no doubt that Sanford’s staff and family knew where he was.

WHAT IS THE F-—ING PROBLEM????

Bingo. With this thread, it’s like I stepped into DU-land. Hyenas and jackals.

press conference at 2:00 today...

Get ready to turn your TV on. Sanford will be giving a press conference today at 2pm.

I accept media bias and lynch mobs as reality and standard operating procedure from the left... not from the right. Every person on this thread that considers themselves a Conservative should’ve been defending this man to the hilt until the facts come out, not acting like a bunch of DUer jackals.

Get the facts at any cost. You don't have to make your your facts, the main stream media will do it for you. I don't want a leader that is there 24/7. Just because the “news” said his wife didn't know and his staff didn't know where he was, you believe them?

In the spirit of openness: I challenge FReepers on this thread who are so stubbornly “skeptical” of Governor Sanford, to identify whether they are supporters of Mitt Romney. I bet there’s an almost perfect relationship, between those so ready to condemn Sanford - and Mittens. This is so like the Palin-bashing.

The difference is enormous. Sanford isn't a Republican politician. He's a Conservative statesman. If this man were up to no good, stuff would've come out about him some time ago. There's few Republicans I'd defend as much as I would him (or Palin).

If Sanford does this right - all this publicity has just earned him the coveted position of front runner. This has been a whole lot of free publicity. I hope he’s got the right approach. Unapologetic, a bit of humor - and the wonderful ability to laugh (with) those who have worked themselves into a lather, all the while making them look silly. If he’s got that skill (which I suspect he does) he’s demonstrating one single thing in all this: He’s Presidential Material. And becoming a celebrity. That wins elections...

For those of you afraid the world will end if there is an emergency while he is away, that is why states have lieutenant governors. No one in the world is so valuable, so irreplaceable, that they can't take a few days off and turn off the phone. All these posters crying like little girls over this need to get a life.

I so hope you are right on this. I really hope he documented his trip and can make the press look like a bunch of blithering idiots.

I sincerely pity the man who would be married to you ... you are more than willing to believe press rumors and the assertions of know Sanford enemies, to condemn and elevate your high holy self to revered status. You don’t know the details of his relationship with his wife and kids, whether he in fatc called to talk to them or was told in advance by them to enjoy hissolitutde, yet you relish the opportunity to lord your ‘understanding’ of family over us to tell us Governor Sanford is a bad husband and fialed father. You stealth libes are so transparent sometimes, even at FR!

Yes, of course, how silly of me. We have a current dictator whose origins are unknown, a disciple of American terrorists and Marxist Revolutionaries, raised by a Mohammadan and taught at one of their schools on foreign soil, annointed and coronated by the media, now undermining our government and institutions every moment of the day, but that’s not important. Gov. Sanford failed to honor the high holy day of Father’s Day, a greeting-card created holiday. He must be lynched.

I can’t even figure out what the story is supposed to be implying. It throws facts out and leaves us to make the conclusion that something illicit is going on: an affair? drugs? child porn ring? (find out in Michael Moore’s next movie) No. The guy needed some alone time. He told his staff where he was in case of emergency. I’m not seeing the problem. My fiancee and me go on at least one vacation per year alone to clear our head. It does wonders for the soul.

Considering the history Romney supporters (and the campaign itself) have of drumming up false and sleazy attacks to defame his Republican presidental rivals, I certainly think it is relevant that the person who was attacking Sanford had a big picture of Romney fishing on his home page.

That trash should’ve been cleaned out of FR in 2007. All the endless flamewars and sleazy attack threads made against good Conservatives, like Palin, Sanford, Thompson, etc. I’ll bet this thread alone would be a LOT shorter without ‘em.

this whole thing is a non-story. Every day I expect more slander against this man because he is one of the rare few Constitutional Conservatives we have, and as soon as I saw the crap over the weekend, I said, “Not this **** again.” You have no idea how many people within his own party cheer when this man is attacked by the media, those are the people that want the GOP to be a pale imitation of the Democrats in policy and actions. I wish you’d consider that before joining up to lynch a fine man. You’re a better person than that.

hmmmm.....Appalachian Trail in Argentina?? I suppose it’s just a typo....what a mess!

A “mess” of the media’s making.

Hmmm, first he was ‘writing,’ then hiking in the woods, then on a cruise, now driving along the Argentina coast. They’ve had this guy bouncing around the world like a ping pong ball.

No wonder the GOP is in such disarray. We eat our own and the Dems love it. Keep it up, you will have the Marxist Kenyan for 8 years and by that time you will probably be forbidden to even post on the internet unless it's through government owned servers so they can see what you are doing.

I know the score. I’m sorry you choose to be a part of the lynch mob. Palin is next up once ALL other Conservatives are cleared out of the way for 2012, btw. It’s amazing how gullible our so-called Conservative FReepers are, they’ll believe anything the media tells us. Why, they’ll even call themselves Communist Reds because the media labels them that, too. And we wonder why we’re losing the war.

I do hope he comes up with something satisfactory. We’ll soon see. ;-)

will you apologize if your man turns out to have feet of clay?

I’m sorry you have a different set of ethical standards than I do. I don’t convict without the evidence, let alone lynch our best people, and take media “reports”, which are the same as Democrat press releases, as if it was brought down by Moses from the Mount.

PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE

Anyone watching this?

Yep, watching. It’s quite sad.

He’s apologizing to everyone, but hasn’t said why yet. Teary eyes.

I’m not understanding what happened. OH CRAP!!! AFFAIR!!! I despise him....spit!

I am furious. What a pig.

He threw away a brilliant career and lovely family. Stupid idiot.

OMFG, no!! What a freaking shame.

Infidelity....what say you now? He is scum. Not presidential at all.

I’m offering MY apology, upon hearing bits and pieces of what the Governor is saying. It was an affair. I wanted him to be able to explain the situation. Believe me, he has let me down with this, because it has destroyed his viability for 2012, and worse than that, it has harmed his family.

Awwwww, he’s cryin now that’s he gotten caught. How did his poor wife feel all this time. I have no sympathy for this piece of sh*t.

We still have others and it is no reason to surrender and fall into supporting RINOs.

He looks like the type who thinks he is Gods gift to women.

Family estranged, career in the toilet, I hope she was worth it.

Sanford is not a "pig". Now Clinton, that's a pig. It looks like Sanford had a real relationship with real feelings. These things happen and it does not make someone a "pig". Mistake, adultery, yes. Perhaps even a mid-life crisis.

RIP Sanford 2012.

His selfishness hurts the conservative cause deeply. I really wanted him to show his written letter of notice for his trip and a memo explaining how to get a hold of him. I thought he would, and thereby stick a finger in the eye of media.

Well, he can’t run for President now. Only rodents can get away with infidelity as such. It’s now entirely on Palin with this. There’s nowhere left to go.

He is goofy looking. He looks like Gomer Pyle (without the good sense or morality).

Um...Gomer Pyle was played by Jim Nabors who was Rock Hudson's lover...in fact, Hudson said of Nabors that he had the best vocal chords he ever came across.

Turns out, he was just sleeping around on his wife with a foreign national.

I am disappointed beyond words. I never ever would have expected this of him. I am now on the Palin bandwagon. For good I think.

Regardless, it doesn’t affect the correctness of his Conservative ideals...

I stand on what I said. It was still a lynch mob mentality, and that was plain wrong, and people, Conservatives, should’ve known better. The conclusion of some of the posters may have been right, but it wasn’t based on anything factual. We knew nothing until he stated what happened.

I have to ask, because I didn't get to watch the whole press conference...Did he say his lover is a woman, or are we assuming this?

Palin looks better and better every day... watch for Obama and company along with Romney, via Politico, to work harder to discredit her.

Yup. Satan is smiling broadly.

Sort of scary.

One minute they're ready to rip off the heads of innocent and unsuspecting "Lefties".

Next thing you know, they're out for some Mark Sanford body parts torn off one by one.

Wow..talk about serious personality disorders!

13. lol that was my personal favorite, too
it was just hilarious to see it all turn to shit in the eyes of the poster after the press conference (seems to have been mostly posts from one person, they all sound the same). It's like a little kid waiting and waiting for Santa to arrive, and then, at dawn, with no sign of Santa and the Fed Ex guy having just delivered the presents, the violent rejection of past beliefs, and the casting about for new beliefs, swiftly settling on the Easter Bunny (Palin).

I could almost cry.

Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 10:02 PM by Sebastian Doyle
The Freep didn't make that one up.

Apparently it has it's origins in a joke invitation to a Hudson-Nabors wedding that was mailed out by an unidentified gay couple from Huntington Beach, who apparently had a lot of Hollywood friends.

And those threads are awesome. I'm reminded about a segment Hitchcock did many decades ago about building suspense. The whole idea that the audience needs to see the bomb and know it's about to go off to get the full feeling of impending doom. Knowing what was about to come only made it sweeter and funnier.

"Look, Lisa, if you watch this in slow motion, you can see the exact moment his heart breaks." Ha-Ha!

"I may be proven wrong, but as a constituent of Gov. Until proven otherwise, my experience with the man leads me to give him the benefit of the doubt."

It's the lies and denial. To me, it's the same pathology that produces:

"I'm sorry I keep striking you. I'll never hit you again!" or "I will continue to hit you until you love me."

They actually believe the press made a bigger deal than was necessary. They actually believe he may have been away on "state's business". They actualy believe Palin is a saint and the best possible hope for America. They believed the same about this guy. And Fox still has the nerve to mis represent the guy as a Democrat.

63. What is it with Freepers and quotation marks?
I see this alot with conservatives. Wouldn't you agree that the bold words in quotation marks are used inappropriately? WTF?

In the spirit of openness: I challenge FReepers on this thread who are so stubbornly “skeptical” of Governor Sanford, to identify whether they are supporters of Mitt Romney. I bet there’s an almost perfect relationship, between those so ready to condemn Sanford - and Mittens. This is so like the Palin-bashing.

114. Quotation marks....a hoot...
I love reading signs that say, for example:

"Chicken" breasts - $2.99/lb

Rest rooms for "customers" only

"Closed" on July 4th

hahahaha

Thank you for some seriously needed belly laughs. I don't have the guts or gumption to go to websites like that and read through their drivel, but this
was so absolutely fantastic, how you caught them as the tide turned.
"he looks like Gomer Pyle"

"I'm going to stick with Palin"

"are we sure it was a woman"

bwahahahahaha

THANKYOU

RIP Sanford 2012.

...and the 10 Commandments are really the only laws that Jesus spoke about in the Gospels. But never once Jesus mentioned anything about homosexuality being a sin.

95. What on earth is "a hamburg run" supposed to be? Hamburger, maybe? Or the German city?
Theory one: Being a port city, maybe the idiom "a hamburg run" refers to people from, say, Stockholm or London sailing off for a quick lovers' rendezvous in another city--Hamburg Germany being the centrally located town with the nicest hotels and the most discreet concierges.

Theory two: it wasn't a run for hamburger, he was just running out to get some cookies, if you know what I mean.

Everything I fantasize about freepers is totally, inescapably true.

They are truly monstrous, rolling around in moral relativism
like swine reclining in mud and shit, bit somehow still
seeing themselves as sparkly clean and pure of heart and soul.

There's no reason to actually talk with them,
or communicate honestly in any way.
That would be worse than useless.

After reading this, it is so hard to think of them
as actual...well...humans.

I mean, they walk, they talk, they fart,
they belch, like a real human, but underneath, they are actually
some alien slugworm with mucousy tentacles and
diarrhea for blood.

And no heart or soul as we know it.

Turning this list into your nearest university's Abnormal Psych Dept. The professors would not believe that this list was not manufactured by us as a joke.

Imagine, these guys must barely be able to get a drivers license yet they own as many guns as they have fingers; about 12-14.
