Source: Sanfords Having Marital Problems
S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford and his wife, first lady Jenny Sanford, are having marital problems, sources tell FITS.

The couple have reportedly been in marital counseling for several weeks now, although it is unknown what the issues are between them or whether or not those issues had a hand in the governor’s mysterious six-day sojourn in Argentina - on Father’s Day weekend, no less.

This information would certainly explain the perceived coolness in Mrs. Sanford’s answers to reporters’ questions this week about her husband’s whereabouts.

It may also explain why she answered those questions in the first place.

“This story got legs when the First Lady started talking,” a source close to the Sanfords tells FITS. “When she said she didn’t know where he was - and wasn’t concerned, that’s when people’s ears perked up.”

Mrs. Sanford is currently at the couple’s Sullivans Island, S.C. home with the four Sanford boys.

The governor is back in Columbia as of today.

FITS is written by Will Folks who was a press spokesman for Sanford.

1. Seems weird still
It is almost like his people keep throwing stuff on the wall to see if it will stick, and when it doesn't they just throw up something else.

Running off to a foreign country without telling your spouce is by definition a marital problem.

19. I assumed marital problems as soon as I read her quotes...
The 1st was something like.... "Don't know where he is and not concerned." That's like saying don't no and don't ...CARE... where he is.
Especially on Father's Day...which is really a day for kids, is it not? She also said she was just.."doing what she was supposed to do... raising her kids" or some such.

There was a problem and Gov. NuTball stormed out. She doesn't want to go public but her anger is eking out.

21. Republican women
I wish one of these "wronged" republican women would one day say "He's a jackass and I am out of here, and yes my divorce lawyer is very, very good".

One can dream.

7. WORD
Spouse gone without any info and other spouse not concerned?

If Havocdad went missing for days I would be a total wreck, and we do not have young children to consider.

to actually acknowledge such things here, and in print no less. Now that line has been crossed.

15. I'm thinking, seeing as the story was leaked to a former staffer of Sanford's for dissemination,
that SOMEBODY wanted the 'word to go forth.' If I had to bet, I'd say it was the Missus.

5. Well, that sounds about right. Still doesn't explain the WHY of Argentina, though.
At least the missus gets to enjoy Sullivan's Island--it's nice out there! Close to Charleston, but you get those cooler breezes. If I were her, I'd make sure I got that house in any settlement!

12. Now THAT's interesting. Why would anyone sell a house in that
neighborhood in this economy? Buy low, sell high, not the other way around--unless you HAVE to....

Hmmmm.

18. Well, according to this link I found, he did buy low and is selling very, very high
looks like at a $3 million dollar profit.

Nonetheless, it begs the question: Why now?

As governor, and as a pontential Presidential candidate, why get rid of the beach retreat -- it's nice place to retreat to and get some photo ops with the family.

So, yes, I think this is another piece of the puzzle.....maybe they "have to" sell. Hmmm, indeed!

Argentina's pretty Catholic, too. I think it might be a tough thing, not an easy thing, to get.

13. The reason this came out from under the rug,
and is now in print is because they lied to Folks. He had a clue about Argentina from somewhere. and they swore it was wrong. So he is in a snit and is getting snittier by the minute. FITS has been an ardent supporter of Sanford and his minion. That seems to be a thing of the past.

17. I don't doubt a bit that there are serious problems...
in the marriage. I do think however, that the problems most probably lay with the governor more so than the wife, if he felt the need to take a powder without telling anyone where he was going and not be home for father's day with four young sons.

I'm smelling hypocrisy. I think he suffered a meltdown thinking his sham marriage may be over and a secret or two may be about to come out that may ruin his chance at a presidential bid.

Maybe I have an overactive imagination, but I've been following repuke behavior for too many years not to be at least be a little suspicious about the entire story.

20. If my husband left me with 4 boys for almost a week
without an explanation of even a phone call, there would be marital problems.
I hope he's not one of these "family values" spouting holier than thou rightwing dogma guys.
If he is, another case of not walkin' it like you're talkin' it.
