Awwww! This is so cute!

An albino baby turtle swims with green sea babies turtle in a pond at Khram island, about 30 km (19 miles) from Pattaya, east of Bangkok June 17, 2009. Special care is given to around 15,000 green and hawksbill baby turtles hatched and housed at the navy's conservation center each year. Once the baby turtles' shells are big and strong enough to protect them from various predators at about six-months-old the young turtles are released to the sea. Picture taken June 17, 2009.

1. Yeah, but they should really just keep him at the conservation center rather than release him.
Turtles are a deep sea-green for a reason. If they let that guy go into the ocean, he's lunch.

3. I applaud their efforts if it works
It's probably near impossible to tell if that method is successful though.

These little buggers are programmed through millions of years of evolution to run for the surf once they pop out of their eggs, and begin their life long trek immediately, even though only one or two from a nest of hatchlings might be lucky enough to make it to adulthood.

I don't know if the science is there that indicates releasing them to the wild when they are 6 months old will afford them their original inclinations to swim in the right direction they would have if on the move out of their eggshell.

I hope it doesn't make a difference, I'm sure it has some bearing, and that they fair well.
