Wastin' away in the cargo bay: Man stuck in bus compartment after Buffett concert

By BRETT HAMBRIGHT, Staff Writer
Intelligencer-Journal

A 21-year-old concertgoer stuffed into the luggage compartment of a commercial bus in New Jersey was discovered in Lancaster County as the vehicle traveled through West Hempfield Township, police said.

The bus driver found the man onboard about 2 a.m. Sunday in West Hempfield after a journey of about 90 miles.

Brent Murry, 21, of Toms River, N.J., had been placed in the luggage compartment by friends before the bus departed a Jimmy Buffett concert in Camden, according to West Hempfield police. ...

... Murry had been drinking with friends at the concert, according to West Hempfield police Officer John Schwab. The "friends" then placed him in a luggage area at the bottom of the bus as it pulled away from the venue, according to officials.

1. BTW: This talented young reporter will lose his job at the end of the week when papers merge.
The two daily papers in Lancaster, PA, which have existed since Hector was a Pup, are merging at the end of the week. Nearly half of the newsroom staff is getting laid off (along with production people and half the newspaper carriers).

3. Just a short ten miles from..............Paradise
Paradise, PA, that is.

Must have been a local charter for the concert. 1700 Columbia Ave. is a Lowes parking lot where the buses load for concerts in Philly and Camden.

11. A bachelor party prank made a friend of my husband's miss his wedding
They all got drunk, and bought him a one-way train ticket to Oklahoma City.. the next day when they sobered up, they told the bride..:grr:. It took them 2 days to get him home.. This was 1965.. he wandered off after the train arrived, and had no wallet (they took that too) he finally went to a church, and the minister made a phone call so the family could come and get him.. The wedding was postponed until the next weekend..

21. Yep. East and West Hempfield townships in Lancaster County were named for the hemp fields
that used to be there. At least one company is trying to bring hemp growing back to the area (and change laws prohibiting it).
