Just called White House Comment line about health care reform and got right through
So call RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!!11!!1!!!

(heh, kidding) but seriously, I did just call and got right through to an operator. Clearly the lines are fairly free and I'll be this week's spokesperson encouraging you to call.

(202)456-1111.

I told the lovely older woman who answered that I'm a small business owner in Illinois and I was calling to ask President Obama and his Administration to take a more forceful, public role in demanding single payer healthcare, for all Americans. I briefly outlined how much we pay to cover 3 employees, how onerous it was, how many employees couldn't afford it and who were going without I was sure. I also told her I believed that health care was a moral right for all human beings and as an industrialized superpower, it was shameful how far behind we had fallen the rest of the industrialized world in our health care.

I know that many of you believe we MUST have stepping stones and should be trying to make the case for a "public option" - and that may be what shakes out - but I figured it wouldn't hurt to express my view that we need single payer even if I'd accept something less than that.

It couldn't have cost more than a few pennies and since I've already contacted virtually all of Congress, it was time to step it up to the big guy.

3. I just called too
And urged them to support single payer, not for profit health care so we can join the rest of the industrialized world. I told the gentleman I spoke with that it's absurd that 80,000 people a year die in this nation due to no health care. Not for profit health care is the answer. Now I just hope it helps.

4. I just called
and you're right. They put me on hold for only about a minute and a half which is amazingly short. They need to hear the voices of the people, let them know we aren't just numbers in a poll but real voices.

8. An evening bump to remind people that it's probably best to call early am.
I'm guessing the phone lines begin to get heavy as more of the US wakes up and begins phoning.

I phoned at about 9 am CT and got right in - no waiting at all.
