Heading to D.C. on Thursday - Are you?
Hey! David Ippolito "That Guitar Man from Central Park" in New York City.

Here.... this is for DUers to pass around the country and around the world. I'm sharing this today because I feel as passionately about this issue as anything else.

It's simply the fact that no one is being held accountable for the atrocities that had taken place in OUR name during those years.... specifically the torturing of prisoners and "suspected" terrorists. I've HAD IT!

I know you love the principles upon which this country was founded, and care deeply about these things as well. I know most of you share my passion for basic human decency.

So, you are the VERY FIRST group to whom I'm sending this new track.

Pass it on.

.

You can reach me at: http://www.thatguitarman.com

I'm heading to Washington D.C. on Thursday.

Are you?

6. No I'm not
Do you see them protesting for Afghanistan in Iran today? No. They're focused, that's why it's working. Health Care. If you can't stick to the subject, stay home.

14. Yeah. Mine too.
If DC is just another scattered bunch of people from LaRouchies to Free Mumbia to torture demonstrations, nobody is going to take it seriously. This is a demonstration about Single Payer Health Care. Leave it at that. That's my free speech to highly and strongly recommend it.

Have you even BEEN to DC? There are protests in that town all the time.

It's not a competition. Everyone gets to speak out in the USA.

That's the point. But go ahead and let it turn into another free for all and then wonder why the media doesn't cover yet another protest that is in that town all the time.

13. Wow...
I didn't organize this day of protest. But, you can bet I'm showing up for it. I'm doing a gig the night before, staying up, and traveling all morning to be there.

http://tortureaccountability.webs.com/eventsacrossus.htm

I hope you continue to show up for the things you feel passionately about. I would never discourage you from attending an event that focuses on health care.

You might wanna re-think the decency, wisdom and thoughtfulness of telling me to stay home.

PEACE

- David

17. You don't pass a law on health care
By having a crowd show up advocating for saving the salmon or gun rights - or protesting torture.

We just passed a school levy. We had marches and demonstrations. For the school. Not cleaning the beach or building a new park. The School.

Focus. That's how you win.

is just too much for you? You just can't put the torture aside for one day to get health care for all americans??

33. Again... are you joking?
Ha! Ha! Wow. I'm not on this site very much. So, I'm surprised!

I have NO idea which protest was organized first. (I doubt you do either.) I haven't heard anything about a health care march. All I know is, I was contacted by several organizations and blogs across the country and asked to lend my support to this outrage. It really doesn't matter. I wrote this song and worked overtime in the studio to get it ready for this week.

So, please.... please go to your rally. I fully support your right to care. Start your own thread. Build your own website, paint your own signs and write a law.

But, I think it's a disgrace for anyone to tell another to "put torture aside for one day".

Ha! Now! Now... now, I'm done.

Did you even bother to listen to the work that this thread was started to share?

(Whew! Gotta say, I didn't expect this when I decided to post in thins discussion. Is DU always like this!?)

PEACE

36. suuuurre, whatever,
Disrupt the Single Payer rally to your heart's content because you know that's the event you're planning to attend.

And yes, DU is always like that, which is what prompted me to ask if people couldn't focus - just this once. But noooooo. Single Issue mindset prevails. As always.

28. Isn't that ironic
I think Single Payer will never pass in a million years, but I know people in the streets is the only way they will take real health reform seriously. So I support the Single Payer march, even though the people here who are supposedly completely emerged in the health care issue know nothing about it. Not you specifically, just people generally.

It's been on several blogs this week, not so much at DU.

48. The luxury of being able to miss work. Even a Monday or Friday would have been better for most
because it would have meant just one day of missed work. On a Thursday - it's pretty hard for many to get to Washington DC and back in one day (in time to work on Friday) if it's more than about 3 hours drive.

.... Cross race, gender, generation, ideology and genre.

There's a rock movement, a folk/country movement, a soul/hip-hop movement, a rap movement, and then a build in which they all come together.

I wanted this to reach as many people as possible.

PEACE

btw...I have been to many protest since the late 60's, where there were more than one thing on the agenda.
You can be against torture and promote Universal Care at the same time. I call it Humane Rights.

45. I agree...
There is plenty of positive energy in this world to address more than one wrong at a time.

The thing for me is...

There already IS a law against torture.

And it is against International Law to torture.

And it is an affront to basic human decency.

If we don't abide by our Constitution and our laws, if we abandon our principles, if we lose our basic human decency, if we allow some to blatantly speak on national television about flouting the Constituion as they thrive above the law... then, not a whole lot really matters after that. It's not President Obabma's call to make. He really should have nothing to say about it. The A.G. works on our behalf to enforce our laws.

We can fix the economy and we can fix our health care system and we can be a nation of hypocritical, apathetic, but very healthy and economically sound.... sheep.

I'm choosing to be in John Marshall Park on Thursday.

Hope I see you at my website or the next time you're in NYC!

- David
