Equal v. Splenda: bitter courtroom battle over artificial sweetener starts Monday.

I'm a Sweet 'n Low kinda girl -- but when I toyed with the South Beach Diet, I did buy Splenda because of the diet book author's pimping of that product. He said something about its being made from sugar and having the most sugar-like taste (that's all a paraphrase). I thought it was decidedly UNsweet (which is also my view of Equal) and went back to Sweet 'n Low.

Equal's suing Splenda because of its advertising claims which Equal calls an "urban myth."

1. If sugar is actually used to begin with...

I don't see what the problem is. But I am biased because I LOVE Splenda, except when it comes to diet soda, which is where I consume most of my artificial sweeteners.

2. I think the problem is that by the time the process is done, the sugar is gone.
