6. Thank you.
So, they're being called back to make SUV/minivans?

Is there even a demand for these things?

8. It's shorthand for "gas guzzler"
but that's about all Detroit has to sell these days. I guess when they retool the factories for electrics and hybrids, we'll find out if Americans want to buy them or not.

9. Why the hell would they be making gaz guzzlers!
Could they possibly be hybrids?

Would anyone buy an hybrid SUV/minivan crossover?

10. Yes, lots of people buy them
Edited on Fri Jun-19-09 06:13 PM by tammywammy
The Buick Enclave/GMC Acadia is an example of a crossover. It's an SUV built on a car chassis.

Most people (in that market) don't want a minivan, but need room that a SUV can provide. Crossovers get better mpg than a SUV. And obviously, if they're bringing back people to build them someone is buying them.

13. I hope someone is buying them!
I not individuals, then businesses.

Maybe the government?

14. They wouldn't have brought them back if no one was buying them
:)

My brother and SIL have the Acadia and it's a great car.

16. Technically no one has bought them yet.
They're hoping people will buy them.

I just wonder if anyone can afford to buy them.

12. "Gas guzzlers" are not the only thing they sell
The "they only sell gas guzzlers" BS is annoying and not based in fact.

18. Well, that's a lot of what's in inventory right now
and they need to dump them on the market as fast as they can. I'm not surprised that crossovers are selling well, gas is still under three bucks a gallon in the crush of the summer driving season. It may work it's way down to the two dollar a gallon range in the winter.

Most families that still have jobs can work with that range of prices to drive a crossover rather than a Prius.

20. Actually that's not what's in inventory
It's what's in demand which is why GM is adding another shift to produce more crossovers.

17. My V6 crossover is not a gas guzzler, but then again you must know all about the crossover.

19. Hey, I have no problems with your crossover
as long as you're the one paying for the gas to go into it. My Hyundai gets about 30 MPGs, and I'm fairly happy with it, it just drags me to and from work for 90% of the miles used.

11. They are adding a shift
at their Delta Township plant which builds the crossovers Buick Enclave, Saturn Outlook, and GMC Arcadia.
