re: Health Care -- just drop the reform...
Screw it... Let it all collapse, at some point the insurance companies will go under. Let them all price themselves out of existence. Let the churches show they can heal the boomers :sarcasm:. The selfish rich can get the fuck out. THEN NATIONALIZE THE WHOLE SYSTEM WITH UNIVERSAL SINGLE-PAYER COVERAGE FOR ALL.

2. I definitely think they ought to scrap it at this point and start over...
With something simple, non-convoluted, and can actually be proven to be somewhat effective.

I mentioned in another OP I started, how about starting with catastrophic single-payer health care for all (deductible based on income/100% coverage thereafter)? It helps private insurers by lowering the risk ceiling (thereby lowering premiums for all) and it can be converted to single payer quickly by lowering the deductible later. In the meantime, it keeps the whole sacred American structure in place that these people can't give up, and it would just prevent people from dying or going bankrupt to start. It would be a slam dunk with some leadership.

3. Can we subsidize people's health insurance in the mean time?
Frankly that's pretty much what I've been saying. If we can't get any kind of truly meaningful reform - at least give a really good subsidy so people like me can buy insurance. My pre-existing condition puts me in the state insurance pool which is run through BC/BS. It's absurdly expensive. Hubby and I pay $60 a month and up, depending on income. At least the uninsured will get health care until the rich get buried in this bubble just like every other bubble they're too stupid to see that they're in.

4. Pretty much agree
Why do something half-assed, as all of the current viable proposals are, when you can do nothing at all?

5. I'd like to see what they would do if everyone in the country decided
to withhold their insurance payments for one month. Sure, the insurance companies would drop individuals who did that, but EVERYONE? Is it a big loss to get dropped from something that likely would find excuses not to cover you if it became necessary, if you knew the insurance industry could be brought to its knees in a month?
