Media coverage of the march
According to the media, there was "Tens of thousands" at the March.

(so they didnt get 100 thousand people????) I find that hard to believe.

A quick look at news websites.

Faux web page doesnt have one word.

CNN, UsaToday have a big picture of Jane Fonda.

1. Don't forget C-SPAN
They're covering "The State of Conservatism" with Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham and others.

2. The best part of CNN's coverage
"About 40 people staged a counter-protest."

Maybe some of the freepers were actually joing the march or sitting out quietly in solidarity?

4. Good title btw. Maybe we will get everyone who wants to address this
on one thread. Seems there was some coverage and maybe helicopters over head. We will see within time if we got fair aerial shots. At this point. I haven't seen one. IMO... unacceptable coverage.

5. There were about 100,000 on the Mall
I was at the rally this afternoon on the Mall.

There were about 500,000 at the September protest. I would estimate this crowd is a fifth that size. I was at both events.

This is how I calculate the crowd size during the rally a couple hours ago:

The crowd filled the Mall from the end of the block in front of the Air and Space Museum up to the block occupied by the US Archives. Let's look at a map, and see it's about 1/3 the length of the Mall (Capitol to Washington Mounument). That's an area about 1/4 mile square (1300X1300 ft = 1.7 million sq. ft). The crowd was fairly densely packed -- estimate 6 people in each 100 sq. ft). That yields - approx. 102,000. Close enough.

Quite respectable given that this one had a shorter leadup time. it's January, and we just elected a Democratic Congress. We'll know soon enough whether we need to really fill the Mall again come Spring.

9. That seems like a good estimate to me. I was there, too.
When we were done marching the route, we couldn't see the end of the line of marchers behind us.

:woohoo:

12. It was more than 500,000. I volunteered with people who would know.
And that is their estimate.

13. That's pretty vague.
Who did the calculations and how did they determine their numbers?

I'd prefer you were right. But, without knowing more, it's hard to respond.

7. Not surprising, especially given they are still reporting the wh spin
of the Iraqi dead at "tens of thousands" rather than the hundreds of thousands that we know is true and the recent report of well over half a million.
