to "become shooken"-- a new Freeper classic
up there with "screwn" and "moran" in my book. From the often bone-headed dialogue on the ABC Message Boards

Were Iranians Afraid To Kill British Captives?
Posted: Apr 05, 2007 07:20 PM reply

114 Posts

Registered: Dec 13, 2006 11:47 AM It appears that Iran became shooken by the fact that America and Britain would have invaded Iran, if they had cut off the heads of the 15 British captives. so is Iran showing signs of fear?

17. Hey, watch it. with that stupid talk.
:sarcasm: I think that is mid-western speak from years gone by. "We weren't too shooken up by the storm." Yep, that sounds about right. Of course today we know better. We take ours stirred not shooken. ;-)

Just like it "pours down rain" on the west coast. I wouldn't use that form when writing, however!

24. my post was a joke.
I was thinking it might be a poster from the mid-west and they were using the old time language that I grew up with.

I actually write the same way I talk so if I say a word, I will probably write it also. Like Yep, Yeah, Well and okay (a lot). I am quirky that way.

And I do the same thing - write the way I speak - unless I'm trying to make a serious point and I believe that my colloquialisms and grammatical errors will be held in evidence against me :hi:

28. I always use the spell check and usually edit everything.
But something will get through no matter how hard I try not to let it. And yes, sometimes I also try to talk a little less folksy than I usually do when I am trying to sound like I know what I am talking about.

I am forcing myself to do some self editing on one of the things (books) I have written, and it always surprises me that when I write I will sometimes either leave out little words (a,the, etc) that are needed or add them when they are not. It is like I have a speech impediment/stutter when I write. Oh well, if only that was the worst thing that could be said about my writing. ;-)

I hate the fact that the number of spelling error is burgeoning on DU because I have always identified freepers by their spelling errors.

Edited on Sat Apr-07-07 12:40 PM by Clark2008
Dr. William Bass (a renowned forensic anthropologist) and Jon Jefferson.

Within the story line, the main character, based on Dr. Bass's roles at both the University of Tennessee and as a forensic anthropologist, has a debate with a student regarding evolution vs. creationism and completely embarrasses the student. The student then calls out all his religious cronies and they picket the school.

What I found so hilariously funny is that Dr. Bass describes their picket signs as having tons of misspellings and misplaced apostrophes. It was just one line in the book, but, after seeing so many freeper posts and protest signs and their usual misspellings, I laughed out loud when I read it.

(P.S. They write under Jefferson Bass if anyone wants to know.)
