VIDEO: Palin supporters trash Letterman's "Bastard" Child, "Slut" Wife

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/16/letterman-protest-draws-m_n_216566.html

Tuesday afternoon's "Fire David Letterman" rally proved to be a failure, as it drew more press than activists, CNN reports:

A crowd of 15 protesters upset with the late night comic held signs and occasionally shouted as they stood across the street from Letterman's studio.

But they were often hidden from view by the more than 35 members of the media there to cover the protest, and out-shouted by a few very vocal counter-protesters.

New York Magazine videographer Jonah Green was one of those press members, and he captured a disturbing video of several of those protesters in hate-filled rants against the CBS "Late Show" host.

Among the more alarming lines of attack -- particularly given that the rally was held because Letterman supposedly made a joke about Sarah Palin's teenage daughter Willow -- was that Letterman's son Harry was born out of wedlock (he recently wed Regina Lasko after dating for over a decade).

"Should we talk about his son?" one protester asked Green. "I believe his son was born out of wedlock. I believe there's a term for that."

"Is someone making jokes about his child?" asked another. "Especially, you know, when he had a daughter out of wedlock himself" (he didn't; 5-year-old Harry is his only child).

"How dare he?" asked yet a third, the most offensive of all. "When he has a bastard son, and a slut for a wife" (Letterman's wife Lasko has kept a notoriously low profile).

8. We are not supposed to be smart enough to do the math
We are not supposed to be smart enough to know that while Palin scores points for "graciously" accepting Letterman's second apology (even though she peppered her acceptance with her own little editorial on the military, which has a hell of a lot to do with her 14 year old daughter, the subject of the joke) the very nature of her followers is that THIS is what they DO.

So she steps out of the spotlight as Letterman's "attacker" and lets her "followers" take over. She stirs the pot and steps back.

Who missed that behavior during the election? Her transparency is shocking and disturbing, and yet the public keeps swallowing it again and again and again.

15. I think "her" public swallows it but most of the rest of the country is fed up with her
Edited on Wed Jun-17-09 11:06 AM by Mike Daniels
Kathleen Parker and Peggy Noonan are pretty solid conservative writers and they haven't had a kind word for Palin since shortly after she first started speaking on the campaign trail.

As solid female conservatives who would probably champion a legitimate woman candidate for president I think their POV's are pretty relevant as to where the non-mouth breather portion of the Republican base stands.

Also, Morning Joe (partisan hack that he is) stated that Palin's "acceptance" of the apology continues to prove that she's not ready to be a leader of the party. His advice (for what it is worth) was for Palin to remove herself from the national arena, do her job as Governor, bone up on issues relevant to the lower 48 and come up with nuanced positions on those issues.

Palin is fast showing herself to not be ready for prime time and the longer it takes her supporters to realize it the better for the rest of the country.

19. Decoy
The GOP has no intention whatsoever to nominate Palin. They are not stupid enough to put a candidate forward this early in the game. She is a pawn, a decoy. She takes all the dirt-digging and jabs at her character while the GOP readies their real candidate, who will deploy at the last possible moment, thus minimizing the time its opponent has to attack its qualifications and/or character.

2. What ugly ugly people
Shrill, santimonious and ignorant. We've got wars going on, a crisis in health care, and wackos shooting innocent people and this is what gets them out to protest. Pretty pathetic IMHO.

They make what Dave said pretty mild in comparison.

11. You might want to look at this thread I posted yesterday:
It gives a current example of the kind of thing the GOP finds to be "humorous."

16. Absolutely disgusting. Amazing that kind of thing is still circulating in 2009--
I'm hoping that Obama's ethnicity will at least get the numerous closet racists to stupidly expose themselves. As a country I think we have never fully dealt with the depth of our racism.

18. The "watermelon on the White House Lawn" photo that was sent a while back...
...I don't recall the name of the politician who sent it out, but he was from the South...anyway, his "defense" for the photo was that he "did not realize that watermelons were symbolic of racial slurs toward blacks."

That's one of the GOP's favorite responses..."Gee, I was not aware of that."

They're good CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVES, so it's OK if there's an unmarried 18-year-old with a child. You just don't understand the distinction. :sarcasm:

10. Why did the media even BOTHER to cover this stupidity?
I can understand why FOX would cover it 24x7, live from Aruba, but why would any NEWS stations cover it?

12. You answered your own question with "Aruba"...
...because the Letterman / Palin story IS our "Natalee Holloway Story Du Jour."

Two wars, economy in the toilet, but this is the shiny object that holds us transfixed. All that remains is for mommy to come in and change our poopy diapers.

13. All these events are "Terrorist in Training Events". Including the Tea Parties.
This is all leading up to the next Election. These are trial runs to get out the crazies and to eventually frighten everyone and cause chaos. JMHO.

14. There's definitely a "Norman Bates Grass Roots Movement" thing going on here...
...the whack-jobs all know where to find each other. It's like when someone drops an ice cream cone on the sidewalk and minutes later it's surrounded by a trail of ants. They just know, instinctively, how to seek each other out. They gather, they shout slogans, they drink a few beers, go home, and watch their old VHS tape of Jeff Foxworthy's "You Know You're A Redneck When..."

22. You have no idea how accurate you are.
Only in this case the redneck was going home to watch 'Larry the Cable Guy'.

I think they just hate government period. They didn't really like Bush either, but he let them do whatever they wanted to 'their' land and the earth.

It's not even religion or second coming shit, it's all about them and their being inconvienced by ecologically sound practice.

I learned this at a flea market this weekend.

I know and fear I am right. So tell us about what and how you learned this at a Flea Mkt.?
