Report ties increase in hate crimes to ‘anti-immigrant vitriol.’

A new report by the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund shows a close correlation between the increasingly volatile immigration debate and a growing number of hate crimes against Latinos and “perceived immigrants.” The report, “Confronting the New Faces of Hate,” calls out a number of restrictionist groups that consistently invoke anti-immigrant rhetoric as they try to make the case against immigration:

“In one of the most disturbing developments of recent years, some groups opposing immigration reform, such as the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), and NumbersUSA, have inflamed the immigration debate by invoking the dehumanizing, racist stereotypes and bigotry of hate groups.”

According to the Washington Post, hate crimes against Latinos have been going up for four consecutive years, jumping from 426 to 595 incidents in the last year alone with a 40 percent overall increase between 2003 and 2007.

Here is an LTE from today's local rag. BTW, my wife is a Mexican national (Indigeonous Mexican actually.) I have to say that even here these types are becoming smaller and less significant every day. But it reminds you where you are when you read this in the local daily.

The answer to the health care crisis in America is very simple — send the 12 million illegals in this country back to Mexico and stop paying for all their medical expenses, which includes thousands of babies born every day. I don't fault the people in Mexico for wanting a better life, but I do have a problem understanding why they are not taking back their own country and making improvements to benefit themselves. Not only would our medical facilities improve, but our school system would benefit greatly from these illegals going back to their own country.

If you think I exaggerate, here's a suggestion: Go to either of the emergency rooms at our local hospitals after 8 p.m, on any given night and watch how many illegals show up because they don't have insurance and can't go to a regular doctor during the day time. Visit any one of our elementary schools and watch the illegal children eat breakfast and lunch (at our expense) and notice how many "English as a second language" teachers there are (when we could be paying our teachers a better salary if we didn't have to have additional teachers who speak Spanish). Why are we trying to teach these people English when they won't speak it even if they do know a few words but would rather pretend ignorance? And while we're at it — ever shopped at your local grocery store or say, Belk, or a store in the mall, and seen how the mothers are preoccupied and the children are running loose without supervision. The greatest example of this is in Wal-Mart. How many children do you see playing with toys that we will later try to purchase for our children which will now not work as they are intended to because they have been "played out."

It appears that America has an enormous problem with greed. Otherwise, why are we accommodating the illegals by putting Spanish language on food and other products sold in our grocery stores, and why do we have both English and Spanish on our ballots to elect our city, county, state and federal officials? Think about it folks — somebody, somewhere doesn't want these illegals to go back home — why?

Isn't this the real problem why California is broke? Haven't they overextended themselves by accommodating all of these illegals from Mexico?

how the observations that really pissed this guy off is seeing brown people getting medical attention, or their kids an education and God forbid a subsidized meal during the school day. Well actually my favorite part was his railing on the need for bilingual teachers to work with the immigrant community - since I AM A BILINGUAL TEACHER.

BUt as I said, these people are so much more marginal than when I graduated highschool - during the Reagan years.
