1. It is one of the most beautiful cities (if not the most) in Iran. NT

3. I read that you've actually been there, MADem. Very nice to have

some first-hand perspective from some of the DUers like yourself who have lived or traveled there. These have been some very eye-opening days for so many of us (like me) who have never been to/studied that part of the world.

4. I would really like to be able to go back one day.

There's this impression that the Revolution left people with that everyone's a fanantic, but that's not the case at all. The people are swell. The food's great. The history is fascinating. The efficiency is nonexistent--but that's part of the charm.

It was, admittedly, an easier society to socialize in under the shah, because the idiotic religious restrictions weren't there, but you also had to "watch what you say, watch what you do" when it came to talking politics--in short, you just didn't do it. You'd do a lot of nudging, winking and talking in code, but even at that, you didn't know who was who, so it could get a little odd. There were a ton of Russkies over there, too, doing this-n-that...to include working on that nuke plant they have yet to get rolling. Some of those folks had some agendas, too.

That said, I'd love to see it become a safe and friendly place for people to live in and tour again. The sky is so blue it hurts to look at it!

5. What people everywhere want is an open, humane society that allows them to live and work in peace.

What wannabe Rulers want is a military-backed hierarchy. Feudal lords dominating masses of worker slaves... same as it ever was.

My heart goes out to our Iranian brothers and sisters in arms.
I want them to know they're not alone.
