Petraeus: McCain’s market trip ‘helped the Iraqi economy.’

On PBS yesterday, Gen. David Petraeus tried to boost up Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) much-aligned visit to Baghdad’s Shorja market: “He was not protected by a cocoon of security. Yep, there was security there, but he out — actually he helped the Iraqi economy quite a bit, bought a number of carpets, in fact.” McCain did not reveal his goods, but Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC) contributed to the economy by purchasing “five rugs for five bucks.”

2. Get your hip waders on
The Bovine Metabolic Byproducts are getting deeper. If $5 helped the economy to a noticeable degree, what does that say about the state of their economy?

3. Oh, I imagine it's a hot vacation destination now
Why if McCain can have a casual stroll with just a few friends in the military along to help him, I bet everyone wants to shop there. Pretty soon all the trendsetters will be photographed there. Paris Hilton in Baghdad!

It looked just like an Indiana outdoor market to me.

Oh Dear God, Dear God! I seem to be saying that a lot lately.
The General is gone to the dark side (he may have always been there). I wonder how much pressure he's under to say these things...I wonder how he could possibly say these things. This is absolute evidence that the "surge" was dead on arrival. Jesus, we're going into "insanity times"

15. I don't think he would have been hired if he hadn't been in lockstep
with the blivet; this is just proof.

6. Wow, a whole five bucks! And the general doesn't think 100 soldiers and
5 helicopters isn't a 'cocoon of security'? I guess in the Pentagon a 'cocoon' would be about a million armed people.

8. Let's think this through like a credit card commercial....
Military flight to Baghdad for senator and entourage-250K
Security sweep prior to visit-100K
Active security with snipers and 5 helicopters and armored convoy-150K
50 units of local currency into the local economy-priceless....

and in keeping with the republican law of ratios $500K=50 local currency=25% profit=12.5 local units pumped into the economy-Damn near the ratio engaged in the rebuilding of New Orleans...

10. "He was not protected by a cocoon of security"
The sky is not blue.

The ocean is not deep.

Rain is made of blueberry muffins.

Now we know why Smirk found this new general. He is an outrageous fucking lying piece of shit.

11. Petraeus is a tool of the administration. It's that simple. Anyone looking
to him for truth and candor--especially since he now carries the burdensome reputation of a savior-- is going to be sorely disappointed.

12. Ulysses S. Grant he ain't.
Anyone hoping this guy was going to turn the war around should just hang it up right now. He was picked for one reason and one reason alone. He told Bush what he wanted to hear.
