This is going to be an angry week at DU.
The Iranian election fraud, our gay and lesbian friends righteously pissed off at the Obama administration, North Korean nukes and who knows what's gonna happen there.

Health care reform that's not really reform without single payer, the CIA director going off on Dick Cheney, the escalation of U.S. military in Afghanistan, and the complete meltdown of the Republican party.

DUer on DUer violence and poutrage, overworked and under-appreciated moderators, right-wing infiltrators, trolls and just general dumb-assiness. And, I expect, more caving from the blue dog Democrats.

Good times.

Except for the murders and assassination threats.

I'm hoping we can sort of stick together. I'm not optimistic.

I'll try if you will.

Flame suit on.

28. Yeah, I guess I'm gone all stupidassery, but I fail to see how shoveling buckets of money
Edited on Sun Jun-14-09 06:52 PM by Sal Minella
into greedy insurance-for-profit corporations (who make their money by limiting health care) is anything one could call "reform."

People want health CARE, not health insurance -- the insurance companies just get in the way and cost us money we can't afford to pay them (for the care we don't get).

I sure as heck would choose "government-rationed health care" over "insurance-company rationed health care" any day of the week.

Edit for clarity. Maybe.

Sorry. I don't mean to be snarky with you.

I'm sure we'd all like to do single payer.

Except those of us getting massive dividend checks from stock in ghoulish health insurance companies.

19. It will give health care to more people in the short term
It won't be effective reform in the long term. And that's the best we can do for the next 20 years. And since that's my lifetime - I'll Fucking Take It.

27. Well, they did object to the guys at Pike Place Market in Seattle

Who throw fish:

http://www.king5.com/localnews/stories/NW_060909WAB-peta-fish-KS.6438183a.html

Despite complaints by an animal rights group, a national veterinary association says it has decided to go ahead with its original plan to use real, dead fish in a fish-throwing demonstration at its Seattle convention next month.

Ron DeHaven, chief executive of the American Veterinary Medical Association, says his organization will proceed with a plan to host a team-building program offered by the famous fish-throwers of Seattle's Pike Place Fish Market.

31. They're dead. The fish are already dead.
It doesn't hurt them.

Catching them and smacking their heads with a club and gutting them hurts them.

Maybe DUers can toss me around when I'm dead. I'm sure some here look forward to it.

48. In a world where old men dominate,
what else can you expect? From Washington to Tehran, old men use religion as a shield to protect their power. Always have and always will. In a perfect world, old men would have to wear burkhas and keep house and not be allowed to lead anything but the family pet.
