Its too bad we can't get members of Congress to recuse themselves
from voting on Health Care reform if they are in the habit of taking money from the industry for their campaigns. Judges recuse themselves over a conflict of interest, don't they? But members of Congress simply pretend there is no conflict of interest- they forget they are representing the people of the United States.

I guess we might not get a quorum if they did that.

1. It;s too bad we can't get exclusive public financing.
Corruption is legal in America. It really is too bad.

5. That "corruption" is our form of government.
Edited on Sun Jun-14-09 05:50 PM by old mark
I remember years ago an article about a man who regularly wrote his congressman on various issues, and always enclosed a dollar bill to "pay for his time."
He said the congressman wrote back stating it was kind of insulting to get the dollar in every letter, and that it was not necessary to pay him to get his attention.

But he never returned a dollar.

They are mostly failed lawyers with their hands out to catch what they can.

2. They should be forced to recuse themselves from any legislative discussion
involving a campaign contributor. But as you said there may not be a quorum if that was enacted. Another case for public financing of campaigns.
