UPDATE: Miami cat killer (19cats) arrest made (18 years old) PIC-mug shot

In this Sunday, June 14, 2009 police mug photo released by the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, Tyler Weinman, 18, is shown after his arrest in connection with a series of cat killings and mutilations in his Miami-area community. Horrified owners have been finding their cats killed and mutilated for the past month in Palmetto Bay and another nearby community. Weinman is charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, 19 counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary.

Tyler Weinman, 18, of Cutler Bay, Florida, was charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, 19 counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary.

Police have said more than two dozen pet and stray cats were killed at night in the Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay neighborhoods during the past two months. In some cases, the cats were skinned or gutted and the corpses left on the lawns or driveways of their owners.

I remember telling him not to do it, and he kept on... (about the cat; when it comes to issues like molestation, who needs the details - we all know what it's about. x( )

Same here... I don't like people who belittle animal cruelty.

He's not 5... he's 18 (even though any 5 year old who would do such a thing is still VERY disturbed and needs to be put in a mental hospital till the problem is helped)!

Also, I can't stand people who say that it's "just" an animal.

13. He still doesn't look too scared.
It will be interesting to see what his background/family history is. That is just too bizarre.

There was a story earlier this week about several boys who stole a lab pup out of the owner's yard, took it to a shed or cabin and tortured it in all kinds of ways. They left it for dead, apparently, and it laid there for 24 hours before it was found. A vet took it in and treated it. The dog is going to live. They caught the kids who did it.

Why? Why would anyone even think of doing something like that? Sick!

18. Interesting comment because just the other night . . .
I was out walking in a nearby neighborhood, one of my favorites, and an adorable tabby and white kitty was lying in a driveway. The kitty came right up to me and meowed and stretched up to be petted. Then he (or she) tried to follow me as I went on. The cat had a collar and looked well care-for, so obviously it had a loving home. But I was thinking how easy it would be for some psycho to hurt or even kill it. Awful world we live in these days, when a friendly kitty just wants some attention and you can't even just enjoy petting it without thoughts like that coming to you. then this story. :(

34. Isn't it? Just yesterday
my husband & I were at an architectural salvage place, where they had a shop cat. Said cat had just adopted them about a week or so ago - they tried to discourage him, but he was so very insistent that he needed to belong to them (he was likened to a door to door salesman, who once he had his foot in the door, refused to leave). He'd obviously been on his own for awhile, as his face & ears were beat up a bit. But he was sure grateful for attention.

The owners are animal lovers (they've had a shop cat before, in addition to bringing their dog along too), but it made me think about what could have happened if they'd been less welcoming, and this cat's trust had been betrayed.

No doubt he'd probably have moved on to murdering young women.

20. Ritalin? You think Ritalin turns adolescents into psychopaths?
I assume you have access to studies proving that.

My son takes Ritalin. and believe you me, it certainly has the opposite effect of turning a child into an amoral animal abuser.

There are lots of studies about the side effects of ritalin/ridalin.
None speak of amoral animal abusers but they do address worse depression than when the kids began using the drug.

27. Well, actually, our case is different
My son is autistic, and Ritalin has helped him enormously, especially with his behaviour at school.

But then studies have shown that Ritalin has shown many benefits for autistic kids.

I have no experience with non-autistic kids.

56. The last five words in that sentence are highly critical
Remember, this is Florida. Is Ritalin on the list of drugs a pharmacist can legally prescribe? If it is, what's the odds that the school guidance counselor told the parents, "he's acting up, get him on Ritalin" and they just took him to Walgreens? Or to a really overworked MD who just handed over a script, if it's not on the pharmacist-prescribe formulary? In either case, there wouldn't have been much monitoring beyond "he's not acting up any more, doctor."

44. If misdiagnosed, giving out a medication can have atypical effects.
And believe you me, I was misdiagnosed with all sorts of shit before finding somebody competent and qualified in 2005. And once you're misdiagnosed, trying to communicate with the idiot doctor is hard enough, not to mention the stigma that goes along with it. Going on the medications, some of them made me do some nasty things... one almost killed me.

So take you blanket and give it to Linus to suck on, thank you very much.

I've dealt with thousands of kids. You'd be surprised how many of them are on a variety of drugs.

Do I think parents put their kids on Ritalin/Ridalin to abuse them?
No but a lot of kids needed parental attention and not drugs. Parents too are brainwashed with the non-stop advertisements for drugs.

I have no problem with medicine but an awful lot of it is unnecessary.

You can't discern from a photo what medications a person is or has been taking, and you certainly can't extrapolate their family history from it. I hope you have not procreated, as your attitude should have died out back in the day of Hammurabi. That's the asymmetric thing about violence, torture, and cruelty; you can't beat it out of people, only in. But as long as vengeful SOBs like you call for retribution, there will be an endless supply of people as psychotic as this very disturbed kid.

65. A bad prison environment may actually make him even worse when he emerges from prison.
Our prison system is built too much on punishment with little attention paid to rehabilitation. It's why our prisons generally have high recidivism rates. The point of prison should not solely be to punish the individual for a crime committed but also to try to reshape the individual into a productive member of society. If that fails, then the individual should be kept away from society for everybody's safety.

and he needs to be charged and convicted as an adult, and sentenced to whatever the maximum is allowed. He'll do fine in lock-up--there are likely many animal lovers who love raw meat.

I heard recently as a reminder that most serial killers abused animals when they were younger. I only wish he could be sentenced to death for all the pain he afflicted. In my eyes, he's a monster.
