Revolt In Iran
The One Conflict In Iran Today Is Between The Regime And Its People
Comment On This Post
June 14, 2009

There is only one conflict in Iran today, to paraphrase Viktor Yushchenko -- and it is between the regime and the people.

You wouldn't know that from watching the news channels on TV in America today, or from reading sites like CNN World, featuring lonely wire service stories on what's going on in Tehran. But news and images streamed in all day from Facebook and Twitter with reports from individuals on the ground -- reports of students standing up to the onrushing military and police forces, of rocks and fire and tear gas, and even of clerics protesting the election's result. Taken together, the scene appears to be the most violent protests in Iran in decades.

1. More from AP: Iran puts curbs on media after disputed election
Iran puts curbs on media after disputed election

CAIRO (AP) — Iranian authorities criticized international media reports and took steps to control the flow of information from independent news sources as anti-government protests raged in the country for a second day Sunday.

The British Broadcasting Co. said that electronic jamming of its news report, which it said began on election day Friday, had worsened by Sunday, causing service disruptions for BBC viewers and listeners in Iran, the Middle East and Europe. It said it had traced the jamming of the satellite signal broadcasting its Farsi-language service to a spot inside Iran.

"It seems to be part of a pattern of behavior by the Iranian authorities to limit the reporting of the aftermath of the disputed election," said Peter Horrocks, the director of BBC World Service in London.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lashed out at the media shortly after he claimed victory in the election that critics contend was marked by widespread voter fraud. At a news conference Sunday, he accused international media of launching a "psychological war" against the country.

2. Thank you for posting this and it actually should be an OP.
I've seen many, many comments on here today complaining that the MSM is hiding information from us from Iran.

I'm not apologist for the network and cable channels, believe me.

But it is important to realize there is state-imposed blackout on the media.

4. Biggest story in years.
They better get up to speed, or admit that Iran's government controlled their reporting. Something's fishy about this. Trying to downplay the real level of revolt going on? Why?

5. How the hell are journalists supposed to "get up to speed" when the government
is jamming satellite feeds, messing with the internet, confiscating cameras and equipment and is being speculated right now, loading journalists and their crew on to trucks and driving them out of the country or flying them out by plane.

And it has already been reported, as shown in many threads here today, that news outlets are already saying they are being censored.

Don't know what's up with all of the weird speculation that somehow the MSM (including the BBC, which is probably THE BEST news outlet in the world) is somehow covering up for Ahmedinijad (misspelled, most likely...) :eyes:
