Darkon: The weirdest documentary I've ever seen...
I just finished this intriguing documentary on the live action role playing game "Darkon". It follows the lives of members of the game in Baltimore. It's really extremely fascinating. The examination of the game is really an examination of the human condition. The fight for power and friendship.

It took me about 15 minutes to get over the fact that it was middle aged people participating in a live action role playing game with foam swords. After that, I really got involved with the characters. Cheesy or not, these " fantasy scenarios" seem to be an important aspect of humanity. You see the passion in such a seemingly trivial event, and it makes you wonder about the trivial nature of your own life.

Here's the link to the film:

1. If you liked that, try this!
Great movie - I've watched that doc 2 or 3 times.....

If you liked that one, try "King of Kong - A Fistful of Quarters".

Same personality types as Darkon, but this doc is centered around the world video game championships and focuses on 2 guys battling for world supremacy on Donkey Kong - you'll love it!

2. King of Kong is a much better movie - imo.
"I wanted to be a hero. I wanted to be the center of attention. I wanted the glory, I wanted the fame. I wanted the pretty girls to come up and say, "Hi, I see that you're good at Centipede."

that just cracks me up.

3. THAT was my favorite quote from the movie!
I live about 30 minutes from the Funspot arcade where the championships took place in NH - I walked through there last summer checking out the pictures on the "wall of fame".... Good stuff!
