*Sunday funnies* Glenn Beck's "Common Sense" -inspired by Thomas Paine

Glenn Beck's Common Sense
The Case Against an Ouf-of-Control Government, Inspired by Thomas Paine

No wait! it gets better

Beck's version of 'Thomas Paine' compares Obama's budget to Pearl Harbor and 9/11

Yesterday's Glenn Beck show on Fox News will probably go down as some kind of benchmark for broadcast insanity. The entire hour was devoted to exploring Beck's thesis that America is marching headlong into fascism. I'll have more on that later today.

But the most otherworldly moment came when Beck, near the end, introduced a segment featuring an actor supposedly playing Thomas Paine -- but Paine reading Glenn Beck's words.

Your complacency will only aid and abet our national suicide. Remember, they wouldn't dare bomb Pearl Harbor, but they did. They wouldn't dare drive two planes into the World Trade Center, but they did. They wouldn't dare pilot a plane through the most sophisticated air defenses in the world and crash into the Pentagon, but they did. They wouldn't dare pass the largest spending bill in history, in open defiance of the will of the people*, but they did!

3. If Beck can 'read' it, it must be a pop-up book with bright lights and whistles.

7. Don't forget the "scratch and sniff"!

Loved those books as a kid, but find the association of scratching and sniffing with Beck pretty disgusting.

5. Well, we ARE marching headlong into fascism... however:
We've been doing so for a few decades now, not just since Obama was elected. This is what I find most disingenuous about these tea baggers: They thought everything was going along swimmingly until Obama was elected.

9. yeah, I've wondered about that too
Where was all of the rightwing anger and frustration at Bush's deficit and complete desecration of Constitutional rights? They cheered him on!

I can't decide if they're liars, assholes, or morons, so I'll have to go with "all of the above"

10. Fallacy of Ambiguity

Fallacies are really failures in reasoning ... mental malfunctions. I regard them as flaws in basic thinking functions. "Logic" isn't just some abstract college course ... it's how we reason, develop opinions and viewpoints, and how we deal with 'reality' (or our own approximation thereof).

12. "drive two planes into the World Trade Center"
I had no idea those planes were taxiing when they hit the towers.

Live and learn!
