Man charged in museum shooting expected to survive, feds say

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The man charged with killing a security officer at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is expected to survive his subsequent shooting by other security officers, the FBI said in a statement released Saturday.

The statement was based on a Thursday court session in which a public defender was appointed for James von Brunn, charged with first-degree murder in the death of Stephen Tyrone Johns, 39, a security officer who police say opened a museum door Wednesday for the 88-year-old reputed white supremacist.

"Defendant was not present in court because he is still in the hospital," FBI Supervisory Special Agent Katherine Schweit said in the written statement. "Government told the court that the defendant was in critical, but stable, condition with an expectation of survival."

Von Brunn was charged Thursday with a federal count of murder and killing while in possession of a firearm in a federal facility.

11. Yep.. they should have let him die. He has nothing of value to say to anyone

He's not the leader of some cabal we are desperate for information about. . He's just a hateful old fool, who will waste precious resources in the attempt to give him a fair trial. He probably did not expect to survive his "adventure". He's been on this planet 89 years..plenty long enough ..

6. Only a miserable person
could do such a crime. how can you truly punish him. at his age prison will resemble an old folks home. He will be protected from the population. Death is somewhat meaningless he is almost 90 and has lived his life. There is no way he can pay for what he has done.

5. Long enough for him to be hung, drawn and quartered?
Edited on Sat Jun-13-09 11:02 PM by backscatter712
That or broken on the wheel...

Yes, his crimes do literally deserve that kind of punishment. Get a pair of pliers and a blowtorch and get medieval on his ass!

I want to see his pieces gibbeted and displayed across the country...

Let him live out his remaining days in prison. No early release to what you think is Heaven, douchebag.

Suffer and die, fucko.

10. I find myself thinking of the woman who was shot in the face years ago
and eventually got the first US "face transplant" recently.

I suppose I should spank myself for hoping this fucker winds up like she did BEFORE the transplant......with a bit of chronic pain thrown in. Anything less would be an injustice.

12. I hope that he spends a very long time in prison
And the Feds should make every effort to keep him alive as long as possible, even to the point of extraordinary measures. I want this man to spend a very, very long time in prison.

15. Too bad they don't use the stainless-steel bedpans anymore
I understand you can keep them very fresh by keeping them in the freezer until just before use...
