7. unfortunately this story sounds quite plausible even if reported on twitter
Although so far I have not heard the report from stronger sources and I have been watching Al Jazeera nonstop - And they are certainly not apologist for the Iranian regime.

Still it is positive for the Iranian people to hear a message of solidarity from the American people and people of good will all over the world. But nothing, absolutely nothing would be more a kiss of death for Iranian democracy and reform that ANY impression that the reform and pro-democracy forces are stooges for the United States. Increased tensions, threats or hostile language coming from the U.S. government or anyone else would absolutely guarantee that Ahmadinejad and the hardliners will effortlessly consolidate power and reform and democracy will be completely and totally marginalized.

11. Skepticism is warranted, but people *can* act on their own, occasionally
Not everything is a US run conspiracy or disinformation.

A Manichaean worldview can be a great hindrance to understanding.

20. So, to use that ABC Twitter feed:
"Mousavi camps tells reporters he was not arrested, will keep challenging vote, appeal to Guardian Council, request a permit for rally"

And, following that up to a news source:

Mousavi's wife, Zahra Rahnavard, denied reports that her husband himself had been detained or put under house arrest

"He is following the issue of the election. He says he is with the people and beside them," said Rahnavard, who campaigned actively alongside her husband during a campaign which drew tens of thousands of supporters onto the streets of Tehran.

Various supporters have been arrested, though, according to that article.

I think this shows Twitter messages on their own are not very trustworthy.

A lot of false information has been posted on twitter since yesterday.

4. One thing's for sure. The editorial cartoons this week will be interesting.
I predict a couple recurring themes- Florida Recount and Tienanmen Square.

9. How come they can't have a tolerant theocracy?
Wonder if they're starting to get nostalgic for the Shah.

12. Probably not
Even at the end of the Communist era the Soviet people weren't nostalgic for the Tsar. Maybe they're just hopeful for something that will actually work.

As is, they're a joke. Hope this brings some change for the good.

17. The Iranian Revolution was pulled off by a united front coalition of which Khomeni was only one part
Who was the face of the Iranian Revolution? Islamists, Communists, Humanist Academics, Feminists... And when they were victorious, the Islamists turned around and executed the Communists, Humanists, Feminists in the same police execution cells that the Shah used.

The majority of Iranians are not religious fanatics.
