Fox News: Human Health Concerns Arise in Pet Food Recall
BEIJING — A Chinese company accused of selling chemically contaminated wheat gluten linked to pet food deaths of cats and dogs in the U.S. said Thursday it sells most of its wheat gluten within China, raising health concerns over people and animals in China.

That fears are that people or animals in China may have been exposed to tainted wheat gluten, a protein source used as an ingredient in pet food. Beijing authorities have yet to say whether they are investigating.

Xuzhou Anying produces and exports more than 10,000 tons of wheat gluten a year, according to its Web site. But only 873 tons have been linked to tainted U.S. pet food, raising the possibility that more of the contaminated product could still be on the market in China, or abroad.

China is struggling to improve its food safety record, but manufacturers often mislabel food products or add illegal substances to them.

1. Damn liberals and all their health regulations interfering with market forces again...
Why can't we just let people and animals die, and let the free markets sort it out?

:sarcasm:

5. Fresh produce (preferably from your local farmer's market),
organic dairy products, whole grains and beans from American farms, and organic/natural meats in limited quantities.

We should be eating this way for MANY reasons, decreased risk of chemical contamination being but one.

7. Indeed, you're right...
But is it too much to ask to get a nice loaf of bread without fear of being poisoned?

Problem here is even if you go to your health food store, you STILL don't always know what you're getting or where they got it from.

6. either faux is wrong on the tons or ChemNutra
is not the only importer.

ChemNutra in it's press release said - specifically:

"The total quantity of Xuzhou Anying wheat gluten shipped was 792 metric tons. "

Another close to a 100 tons - is where?
