When a liberal is interviewed on a cable "news" show ...

... are they treated differently if they are interviewed "via satellite" as opposed to if they were in the same room as the questioned?

If so, how? Do they get cut off more often? Do they get to say less than anyone else. Are they ignored more?

And why?

1. I think the "why" part is obvious

and works equally well when a right winger appears on a "hostile" show.

But anyway, yes. It does seem quite different. The problem is with the time delay. It's easy enough to end up talking over each other by mistake, and those that wish to can take advantage of that in order to bully the conversation along (O'Reilly is a fucking Jedi Master at it), not to mention the whole "cut their mike" schtick which doesn't work when you're sitting across from the adversary. Basically, it's a lot easier to maintain your side of the conversation when you're engaged in it live and in person.

6. It's Like Shadowboxing...

In many cases, the people on the satellite hook-ups can only hear one another...not see. They have a little earpiece that "lags" by a fraction of a second due to the time it takes the signal to bounce from Washington (or New York) to whatever place the remote is and then back. It can be very confusing hearing those bounces and it takes a bit of getting used to.

I don't think there's any difference in party in these things...anyone in the studio is sure to get more time and their voice heard as they have the full attention of the host. It's far easier to talk to someone you have direct eye contact with than a voice in your ear coming in from across the country.

That said...the GOOP has long trained their talking heads on how to appear on these shows. They're taught never to give ground...when in doubt, shout...when your opponent seems to be making a point, cover them up. It's a tactic you see all over the place and doesn't need to be on a remote to see it in action. But it doesn't take much for a rushpublican to sound boorish and rude...it's a prerequisite to be a member.
