FR thread- "Republicans should focus on increasing their share of white votes."
Republicans should focus on increasing their share of white votes.

Posted on Thursday, June 11, 2009 12:38:35 PM by Dayton3

Why does everyone insist on the GOP reaching out to Hispanic and black voters?

Sure, non Hispanic whites will be the minority in the U.S. (though by far the LARGEST minority) in the 2040-2050 time frame.

But there are a lot of presidential elections between now and then.

If the GOP increased its take of white votes from 58% (2004) or 55% (2008) to 70% or better, then it could win virtually any election with little minority support.

And why as so many claim would it be racist?

Is it racist when 94% of black voters vote for the Democratic candidate or 80% of Hispanic voters go Democratic?

Why waste the time and resources on making minor inroads among blacks and Hispanics when the GOP could start a quest to secure more white votes from a position of strength?

1. See how they are. They are always just thinking of themselves-
they are going to go the way of the dinosaur.

2. Yup, meanwhile Dems should continue to focus on a bigger share of ALL voters.

8. Dems have been most successful when they go after non-voters
How many more people were brought into the process this time? I think that's the strategy we should be pushing for. If nothing else, it will keep the Dems from from moving rightward to compete for "moderate" Repuke voters.

14. Yup, Obama and Dean's 50 state strategy was a thing of beauty and brilliance.
Lets see more of it in the midterm '10 election.

Peace

3. Why do they assume they can increase their percentage of the white vote?
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 01:28 PM by KingFlorez
Again, they don't get that everyone has a problem with their policy, not just minorities. If you can't get everyone to vote for you, then you won't get far.

4. Because then they can go back to Nixon's Southern Strategy
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 01:31 PM by Taverner
Although that ship sailed long ago, and our current President is proof

Obama bagged FL and NC, as well as almost bagging MO

AND - if you look at this map

You see there's a blue belt going through most of the South

13. You notice on that map
that the largest areas of blue are, for the most part, urban areas, while a lot of the red areas are rural or lightly suburban.

They're not talking about ALL white, are they?
Don't they know that that includes women? Oh, and a lot of atheists, we can't have that. And lots of those whites are gays, so they can't bother to court them as a voting block. And some of those men support a woman's right to choose, so they can go screw themselves. Oh yeah, there are also lots of white males who want to increase money for social programs, so there's no room in our big tent for those commies. So perhaps the real way for the republican party to win future elections is to give 150 electoral votes each to Kansas and Utah. Then they'll be a shoe in.

6. Good strategy. I personally encourage it.
Whites are a shrinking percentage of the population. In several states they already are or will soon be less than half the population, and will within a decade or two be the minority compared to Hispanics. Several of those states are locks for the Republicans now.

So don't do the math, Freepers. Show your integrity. Follow Captain Edward Smith. The rest of the world will thank you.

It's not the color of the skin, it's the Republican governing philosophy that turns people off. Keep deluding yourself, Dayton3.

15. They will never understand why they are at 26% or something.
When ever they lose they say it was because the candidate wasn't right wing enough.

17. Hear them, hear them!
Let them spend ALL their money and effort on a segment of the population that can never be turned, a segment that is part of a shrinking "white majority" of the overall population. Good policy to completely ignore current "minority" interests. I'm all for it!! I think with that policy the entire party could be nothing more than a faint and troubling memory by 2040.

23. I kinda agree.
But FR also knows the spotlight is on them now with the recent news of Von Bronn's(sp?) posting on that site.

They've "cleaned" up their act slighlty in the past 24 hours.

Soon they'll return to their usual spewing of hate for everything non white male authoritarianism.

But there's truth to what you said as well.

Ultimately helped render the GOP the shrunken rump of a party that it is.

27. With votor turnout as low as it usually is, focusing on 1 group
who usually votes isn't going to cut it. The voters in the 2008 election were highly motivated. They were in 2004 too, but even moreso in 2008. What the dems need to do in 2012 is to motivate the voters again. Only the people who actually vote deterine the outcome
