The man arrested on Saturday for sending more than a dozen envelopes containing "fake anthrax" to anti-war celebrities, journalists, and politicians may have ties to the conservative supersite Free Republic, RAW STORY has found.

Chad Castagana, a 39 year old Californian named as the FBI's prime suspect in the case, is due in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles today, where procecutors are expected to file criminal complaint against him for sending threatening letters through the U.S. mail. Castagana has an extensive online history, often writing about science fiction and conservative politics, and many bloggers are convinced that he is also a contributor at the conservative activist Free Republic website under the name Marc Costanzo, whose online profile, once available here was suspended after this story first ran this morning.

Earlier today, users at the liberal websites Democratic Underground and Daily Kos brought to light the similarities between Castagana's Internet footprint and Costanzo's writings at Free Republic, and RAW STORY has found a series of eyebrow-raising connections between the two men.

3. I find it interesting that the only political offices that were sent the anthrax-laden letters were
those of Democratic Congresspersons that refused to consider legislation that would limit some abortions.

Hmm......

Remember this Salon.COM article from November 2001?

http://archive.salon.com/news/feature/2001/11/22/anthrax/index.html

Are right-wing hate groups behind anthrax terror?

Nobody knows, because the Justice Department isn't investigating violent militants on the right the way it's monitoring Muslims, critics say.

5. This psycho went after a lot of non-politicians, too
People like David Letterman, Keith Olbermann, and Jon Stewart was an intended target (except that the imbecile UnaFreeper sent his attack to the wrong "John" Stewart).

But there are right-wing psychos beyond the usual suspects of Freak Republic, etc.

http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/november2006/151106olbermann.htm

Note, especially, the veiled threat from the "Olbermann Watch" web site:

In an open letter to Olbermann posted at its Web site, Olbermann Watch vows "We will not be intimidated."

"While we are generally amused by your megalomania, you have lurched into dangerous territory in your attempt to link Castagana to 'right-wing blogs' thus tarring all bloggers that do not agree with your world view as advocating, condoning or turning a blind-eye to terroristic 'pranks' like those alleged of Castagana," the site's editor Robert Cox writes.

Boldface emphasis mine. "Dangerous territory"? Sounds like a threat to me. Why wouldn't this guy just say he RESENTED being lumped together with the UnaFreeper? And what's up with calling death threats "pranks"?!?

The entire article is an interesting, though creepy, read. The letter this psycho sent to Jon Stewart is particularly scary.
