I think the complaints about gays in the military seem out of place.
Ok, I am willing to have the discussion about whether introducing issues that stem from sexuality into the military affects the performance of the military. That is in principle a question that can be objectively answered without making any moral evaluation. However, it seems to me that most of these issues should have already arisen with men & women being in the military together. I doubt that anything fundamentally new will come from allowing people to be openly gay in the military. So why are we having this discussion now? It's not like women were allowed into the military just yesterday. The whole discussion seems to be lagging way behind the actual present day reality.

1. These are the same complaints the military had about blacks in the 60's

2. It's because the people complaining don't actually care about the military. They are homophobes.
Religious nuts. This has NOTHING to to with the military at all. It's all about keeping gay people silent.

3. They seperate the men from the women
Meaning the women are not quartered with men. That's how it's done today and that's the way it's been done for a very long time. Would you bunk gay men with women and lesbians with men?

4. Lesbians with men, no. Gay men with women, perhaps.
Lesbians would face a high risk of being sexually harassed.

6. Why the fuck would gay men be placed with women?
They are MEN.

12. They are gay men
There's a reason why men and women are separated and it's because of sexual orientation.

15. Gender is not a sexual orientation
Why are you so fixated on keeping gay men separate, but you don't mention lesbians?

5. No, men with men and women with women
I don't see how that's hard.

The funny thing about this, (and you've shown your true colors already) is you never hear women freaking out about having to shower with a lesbian. It's ALWAYS straight men freaking out about gay guys, and basically showing that they themselves don't trust themselves to have any self-control.

8. Well, repealing DADT still wouldn't allow transgender people to serve openly
But, men with men and women with women. How hard is that to understand?

10. Sure. I thought some gay men might prefer to be with the women. But whatever.

14. Well...
mainly the posts I have read here about some neuroscientific studies that show that a gay man's brain has a lot of similarities with a woman's brain.
To be honest, I don't know alot of gay men myself.

16. Yeah, I don't put much worth in those studies -- most gay men I know are just typical men
who are attracted to other men.

9. Dude...I have slept in the same quarters as a gay man.
Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 07:01 AM by YOY
I assure you...I did not wake up in the middle of the night getting anally violated.

They bunk with the same sex. Any misconduct after hours regardless of what gender the perps are will be treated with not-so-niceness. After befriending a few gays and lesbians I can assure you that they are capable of professional behavior and are not all about screwing all the time.*

*Of course there are some exceptions as with straight people. I don't think those kinds of folks would join the service. If they do they won't last very long.

I've shared rooms with plenty of straight girls, and I never fooled around with any of them. I don't get why homophobes always act like gay people have no self-control.

Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 08:28 AM by YOY
Sometimes subtle but still there.

They'll also freak out about taking showers together. Funny thing is, lukewarm showers at 5-6 am when you're just trying to not fall asleep and quickly scrub the grime off your body with a bunch of other people trying to do the same are pretty non-erotic...but the simple minds picture some sort of weird shower orgy at best and a jail rape at worst.

I have slept in my gay friends apartment, and he never attempted to have sex with me.

Gay people are not horny fucks waiting to pounce on anything that moves.
