My fear regarding health insurance reform
Edited on Tue Jun-09-09 08:01 AM by SHRED
That they will tax those with current health coverage to pay for those unable to afford a government 'mandated' health insurance program.
In other words more tax dollars to corporate insurance via the IRS.

Isn't this what it is shaping up to be so far?

3. I'm transitioning out of the military next year
I'm fearful, that after 20 years of service and getting the benefit of being able to buy military retirement health care at $460 yearly, the government is going to throw that all away and make my family pay substantial higher premiums.

4. As someone who
purchases private health insurance with fully taxable dollars I'm not sure I have too much of an objection to that.

Though I will say that I'd much prefer that I be able to use nontaxable dollars to make the purchase - or be able to have a tax credit with an indefinite carryforward for the health insurance expenditure.

Since I purchase health insurance with fully taxable dollars the cost is effectively over 30% higher than the premiums the insurance companies charge.

5. My fear is that it will be so complicated that NO ONE can understand it
which is also a Repug ploy.
Remember how incredibly complicated they made the drug coverage? So complicated one admin honcho found it impossible to sign up his mother

6. I don't know how I feel
For 20 years I was the recipient of a fully paid family plan from my employer. The cost for that policy was approximately $9,000/year. I was not required to contribute anything. Everyone wasn't eligible for the insurance and others received it through their spouse's plan. The cost was around $9,000 per year. It seems to me that $9,000 should have been taxable income.

I'm retired now, but I've got 5 years to go until Medicare kicks in. I'm paying $5,000 out of pocket for my coverage now through Cobra. I can't deduct that premium, nor do I receive a tax credit. I hate to agree, but I really think the benefit should be taxable. I'm donning my flame suit now.

7. I fear the final product will be another "trickle on" program...
That somehow those individuals who feel it's their God-given right to make money off someone else's health problems will emerge victorious.

Another "attack of the middlemen" moment...

8. The corporate MSM is rigged

Radio and TV serves the oligarchy well.
The fact that single-payer insurance is rarely discussed intelligently on these 2 is a classic example.

They control the advertising dollars, they control what is aired, and they control the amount of information the majority gets.
