DU's medical doctors- check in here.
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 04:51 PM by Mika
I've seen so many threads lately with blanket black and white pronouncements on what medical treatments work and don't work.

Seems like there are a LOT of practicing doctors here on DU.

Please check in. :hi:

DDS here. (aka on DU: a snake oil salesman, a crook, a thief, an insurance claim denier monger, rich bastard, thief, etc etc) :hi:

Dentists wear leather, ride motorcycles, and love inflicting pain.

19. that ain't nothin'!
there's a youtube video of a guy popping this huge fatty cyst on his leg with an Exacto knife.

As a dentist myself, I've seen everything, but you could smell the pus thru the monitor...BARF.

At least there was a stent used in the vid I posted. Some people sink a roundhouse freehand :wow: then drop it on a lab :o . (Only to moan over lab fees.)

21. Squeamish, me? Nah.
One time I had surgery on my finger and the assisting nurse tried to hide my eyes from it. I told her no, I actually thought it was fascinating. Now, my wife on the other hand, would faint at the sight of a drop of blood...

Now, that was an interesting video. I don't need a full set like that, but I think I should get an implant to replace a canine that never erupted (it took a detour).

Sadly, most vets end up as pet-care workers (my dad was a rancher, definite shortage of large-animal vets: even (especially?) here in Texas).

15. Well, my reverance for doctors, PAs and Nurses comes from watching my father's experience
at the Mayo Hospital and Clinic.

It doesn't get any better than that.

Also, I had the greatest GP ever when I lived in Los Angeles. He was everything you could ever hope to have in a doctor. I miss him so much.

When I moved away from him, I landed in a place where I have to doctor whatsoever.

23. If you want to know how Physicians really are, what they worry about (their patients) and
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 06:29 PM by Mike 03
what the hot topics are that they are concerned with, please check out this amazing site/XM radio station called ReachMD.

I have been singing the praises of this station/web site for more than a year.

Other great places that will reassure you doctors are people you can trust:

www.medicalnewstoday.com

Type the disease of your choice into Google and check out the non profit organizations devoted to that disease, and the physicians who are on the board of that organization.

In the case of my father, it is www.myeloma.org

But whatever your illness is, I can guarantee you doctors have devoted their lives to finding answers to the disease.

comment on politics.

Similarly, common sense and education allow me to comment on medical issues.

For the record, though, I am a believer in medical science--definitely not a member of the "Take Vitamin C for cancer/vaccines give you autism!" crowd.
