APBAGHDAD (AP) —
Officials say Iraqi authorities have detained five U.S. citizens in connection with the death of an American contractor in Baghdad.
The case is the first test of Americans facing local justice under a joint security pact that took effect this year.Interior Ministry official Maj. Gen. Hussein Ali Kamal says the detained Americans are from the same company as the slain contractor.
U.S Embassy spokesman James Fennell confirmed Sunday that five Americans are in Iraqi custody but says no formal charges have been filed so he can't provide further details.
Jim Kitterman's body was found in the protected Green Zone last month. Americans released few details of his death.
The 60-year-old from Houston ran a small construction company in Iraq.
