1. Sometimes men participate in those kinds of decisions...
you know, with their wives, girlfriends, daughters... I understand your point, but some men do participate in that type of decision.

17. Yep. They will never know that feeling of fear over an unplanned pregnancy or pregnancy scare.
I wish they could experience it. They'd change their tune.

Controlling, sanctimonious, assholes determined to subjugate women--that's what you are seeing in these photos.

Kindly, concerned husbands, boyfriends, fathers---indeed. :eyes:

male grasshopper urinates through a bigger organ than they do.

5. The other pictures in that line up show lots of women
THEY didn't have to make this heart wrenching decision, either. In fact, the person that shot him the last time was a WOMAN, who has also never had to make a heart wrenching decision concerning having an abortion.

Please don't turn this into a gender war. Men can and do provide support for women in the battle for equality. My husband is a beautiful human being and I doubt he would like to be compared to ANY of these people. Women are not the only ones that make heart wrenching decisions.

Then click on 'view image'. The picture will come up in a web page by itself. Copy that web address and as long as it ends in .jpg, it will show up here as a picture when you post it. Like this:

12. That set of photographs is heartbreaking -
mostly because the pictures of Dr. Tiller through the years, his beautiful hands, his calm demeanor, just remind me again of how very much has been stolen from everyone.

But, what floored me was this picture - Dr. Tiller and his staff operated under conditions that might best be called "wartime." Their clinic is a fucking fortress because of those fucking protestors. And when you consider that what was going on inside that building was perfectly legal, it boggles the mind to think that those fucking people, with their signs and their rosaries and their crosses, are working so hard to make life frightening and miserable for people who were simply doing their jobs.

If you don't like the law, work to get it changed, but if you can't succeed at that, leave the people operating under the law the hell alone, you miserable fuckers.

I deplore how much they make me hate them. I don't want to hate that much, but I do. I truly do ................................

13. I feel the same way
maybe because I was in that clinic

I was called ALL kinds of names

slut, whore, baby killer ect...

I was in what I thought was a committed relationship and found myself pg when I told the father...the man that I thought I loved, he turned into someone I did NOT know a month after (after enduring a lot of verbal and physical violence...like it was my fault I was preg) he left

I had no insurance, no money and a minimum wage job..

Oh and the father...the man I thought I would spend the rest of my life with ... was a POLICEMAN

it has been 25 years and I have a beautiful daughter and a husband whom I love, but I still grieve for what I lost...

Dr Tiller understood that and was very kind, considerate and gentle

That's all that matters. I'm sorry for your regret. And how fortunate you were to have had Dr. Tiller to take care of you. You were under the care of an American hero.

And all of it was legal. Still is.

There is absolutely NO reason why we should be on the defensive. They're WRONG, we're RIGHT, and fuck their religious beliefs. Fucking Taliban has nothing on those people.............................

18. Agreed........
It's a matter in which they have absolutely NO voice. None. If they didn't want to get involved in a pregnancy, they should have used a condom - and prayed. But, unless they're gonna carry the fetus, they are persona non grate in a situation that is a medical one between a woman and her doctor.

Even the best of them have no clue.....................

22. Like I Asked an Older
man and woman outside the library last week. They had at least 6 anti-choice type stickers on their car so I asked them why they should have a say in it since one of them had no ovaries and the other was past menopause. They were speechless. I have stopped being the quiet little liberal taking shit from those assholes. I will question and confront every stupid person I encounter.

23. My anger is absolutely there
I was traveling to Dallas this last week and saw this butt-ugly fucktard with anti-Obama, George W. Bush loving, gay hating, anti-abortion stickers all over his car. I have no need for confrontation, but when I saw that shithead and his car, I had really bad thoughts to him. Then the asshole tried to flirt and open the door for me. I said nothing (holding my tongue), and stood in my spot, refusing to walk through the door he opened.
I seriously doubt he knew why I refused the gesture, and I really don't care. I wasn't even going to let that fucknut make the simplest choice of letting ME walk through the door first.

29. As a man, I will never know that kind of gut-wrenching decision.
I suppose there could be a time when I would be involved in the discussion, but in the end the decision will never, EVER be mine to make... Nor would I want such a responsibility, to have to make that kind of difficult choice for somebody else.

I will never understand the way some people think. Never, ever, ever.

30. Very often it was the men who were the most vehement and hateful in the debate.
I spent a fair amount of time out in front with NARAL back in the early 80's when the clinic protests were going strong here locally. I was a clinic escort, marched, and staffed information booths--so i saw a fair number of people who did not agree with me on the subject of choice.

At the time I was absolutely struck by the fact that the overwhelming majority of the people who were out there being so ugly to women were either men or else women who were past the age of childbearing. Obviously, this was not exclusive--there ARE young women who feel abortion is wrong--but certainly, nowhere near as high a proportion as men and older women.

I commented on it to my mom one time (she is very outspoken about being pro-choice, and at 79 she still writes letters to lawmakers) and her comment was that these were people who did not have any "fear" of pregnancy. I took that at face value at the time, but over the years I've come to think about it a little more and I think it goes deeper than just the gender/post fertility thing.

From having talked to (debated, maybe is a better word for it) those folks I have come to realize that they honestly (a lot of times anyway) think that life begins at conception. To them, the minute a sperm and egg meet it IS a human. There is no room for science in the discussion, nor is there any room for factual discussion that might challenge their ideas about when "life" begins.

They do not want to discuss what all can and does go wrong during that first trimester. They do not want to hear about the high number if "missed" pregnancies women have (all those times you thought maybe you might be pregnant and then had a late period that was more crampy than usual and really heavy could well have been "missed" pregnancies. Had you taken an early pregnancy test it might well have been positive.) They sure didn't want to talk about the number of miscarriages in second or third trimester.

Forget about discussing the threat to a woman's safety that pregnancy and childbirth present. Preeclampsia or gestational diabetes are not anything they care to hear about and they have absolutely NO interest in talking about any of the birth related horrors that can present where mom and baby both end up dead.

I know I run the risk of painting with a broad brush here, but I honestly think that for some of these people there is such a complete and blind belief in their own viewpoint they just simply refuse to see anything else. It is kind of like the "flat earth" folks--except it is a lot more hurtful.

These guys have not only no fear of pregnancy, they have no understanding of it. Sadly, usually they don't want to learn either.

Laura

31. It is true that I agree with your position, but you were not completely
fair in your post

"...are MEN who will NEVER EVER have to make a heart wrenching decision..."

Men might never make this particular heart wrenching decision, but we can and do make some other ones. I think you might better have used "this heart wrenching" rather than "a heart"

Miz O did not die after her motorcycle accident, and the brain damage she suffered has, after three years, only manifested itself with some short term memory loss and some balance problems - however, signing a DNR and refusing intubation in ICU (we've discussed this many times over the years) was still, for me, a terrible decision. They could not tell me how much damage the brain bleeding would cause, or even that she would live until morning.

Yes, we make hard decisions.

You cherry picked your photo - there were women in 3, 9, 10, 11, and 20 - including the woman who shot him many years ago.
