“Nothing Says “I DO” Like A Machinegun On Full Auto”

http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2009/06/04/nothing-says-i-do-like-a-machinegun-on-full-auto/

Here in Kentucky where I live, there are a lot of long-standing stereotypes having to do with guns and being barefoot and pregnant, which does not excuse the above ad which is currently running in the Louisville Eccentric Observer (LEO) .

If you follow the link in the ad, you will find out that,

“Nothing says “I DO” like a machinegun on full auto. Rent our 11,000 sqft Party on the Green with a kicking sound system. Set your band upstairs your Dance floor downstairs for an edgy wedding you’ll never forget.

Sara Palin are you listening?*

*and no you don’t have to be pregnant - BUT if you are, write us why you should win an Openrange Shotgun Wedding. If we are amused you might win the use of our Party on the Green, Full Auto Vows on the gun range! plus a Ceremony by Certified Range Safety Officer and Minister (that would be me).

Win Stuff - Every bride or groom you bring that is new to Openrange could win you points for really cool gifts and things. Free range time, free guns! The limit on your number of brides and grooms is up to you.

This project is supported by the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s 2008 Range Partnership Grant Program”

17. We aren't all bad
Edited on Fri Jun-05-09 01:29 PM by get the red out
Actually, we could easily get nerve gassed. The Lexington Army Depot has all that old nerve gas from the WWII era stored out there and sometimes one will spring a leak. If something ever happens to the Depot you will get your wish, and we will be gassed in the Bluegrass. Here in Lexington, I might not last long. :-(

We do have a Democratic Governor, two good Democratic Congressman, two fairly blue cities in Lexington and Louisville and aren't all idiots, really.

7. Dial back the outrage.
I followed the link and it's a fairly stupid joke. An attempt to be clever and not hatred of women/gun nuttery. It's making of fun of stereotypes.

12. I'd rather have one of these redneck weddings than a church one
Channeling Jeff Foxworthy: If you hold your wedding at a machinegun range, you very definitely ARE a redneck.

But no, there's no damn way I could support holding a wedding in a church these days, with all the hatred that comes out of a lot of those places. Besides, if you, your intended and a lot of your guests like to shoot, this could be fun.

11. Sorry, I'm having a difficult time mustering any outrage.
It's marketing...and creative marketing at that.

People get married at parks, at the beach, underwater....why not at a range?

16. Agreed. Tacky, but not outrageous.
I'm sure it attracts more good-ol'-boys than brides. A *lot* more GOBs....

I don't see any mysogyny or insult to women in it, just a corny gimmick that probably brings in customers.

21. No, it's not outrage worthy, but it is STUPID.
It's one of those marketing ideas that the people on the inside think make them look fun and cool, whereas in reality it just makes them look like desperate morons.

23. To YOU. To many, it's a worthwhile activity,
There are plenty of people who see value in raising 2nd Amendment awareness. This is an opportunity for them to show their support in a comfortable social setting.

I think it's different, but I certainly don't think it makes them look like "desperate morons".

14. I think it's funny.
And I have a low tolerance for anything that smacks of sexism. They're just making fun of redneck stereotypes, like Jeff Foxworthy (who was kind of funny once upon a time, too.)

15. Pretty creative
I think that would be fun...would beat most of the weddings that I have attended.

And to the person ,upthread, that asked why Kentucky was not been nerved gassed yet....WTF? Seriously....

19. Oh, and the author is wrong about pregnant women and intimate violence
Violence by a loved one is the most common cause of death for pregnant women, but they are not at an increased risk of violence, in fact, the risk is significantly lower to pregnant women than it is to non-pregnant women.
