Ask MSNBC to give the Siegelman travesty airtime
Edited on Sun May-31-09 12:23 AM by pilsner
For the life of me I can't figure out why neither Olbermann or Maddow aren't reporting about Governor Siegelman's story under the banner "Miscarriage of Justice" on a regular basis.

I just emailed them at countdown(AT)msnbc.com and rachel(AT)msnbc.com.

And, why don't the MSNBC shows routinely report that President Obama and Attorney General Holder have allowed most the crooked federal prosecutors to stay on the job which goes against tradition. You know, the prosecutors that Bush and Alberto Gonzales did not fire.

Here's more about the Siegelman case:

Gov. Siegelman was prosecuted for something that The New York Times said has never been a crime.

He was selectively prosecuted (Time Magazine)

Witnesses were coached, false testimony given and evidence withheld (60 Minutes, CBS, February 24, 2008)

He was brought to trial one month before the Democratic Primary.

The prosecutor is the wife of Karl Rove's best friend, a man who was my opponent's campaign manager.

There's sworn testimony that Karl Rove was involved.

Jurors emailed other jurors during the trial seeking votes for conviction.

Jurors passed notes to the prosecutors during the course of the trial.
Prosecutors had private communications with the judge.

3. Dan Abrams was the only one who ever covered the case. After
he left, I never heard another word about it. It is strange that KO and Rachel don't touch this at all.

about the Siegelman case.

Rachel and Keith's lack of reporting about the case makes me wonder if Bush and Rove's wiretaps compromised someone powerful at MSNBC to keep a lid on this story.

6. He was the only person I ever saw cover the story. Prior to his
coverage, I only knew about Siegelman from DU.

10. And then Abrams disappeared.

I was going to post what you did earlier, but I couldn't remember his name!

I'm not sure that Olbermann NEVER covered the Siegelman case, but he has most definitely been silent on it and I can't think of any particularly good reason why.

11. Rachel too. I would expect it more of her, actually, because
she seems to do more of the stories that are not getting mainstream coverage.

I remember that Dan Abrams was really hot about the story - he even interviewed the family. It is exceedingly strange that no one else picked it up after he 'disappeared'.

5. Why would MSNBC coiver this? It isn't in their best interest to do so
MSNBC is as far right as Faux, but as stealth as Politico.

7. Can you back that up?
Olbermann doesn't hold back on too many issues and he's on MSNBC. Yeah he doesn't talk about revoking corporate personhood you can get decently informed just by watching his show regularly.

8. Just my opinion .... as stated more in depth, here:

You're free to agree or not.

Since it is opinion, I am not inclined to debate (get in a pissing match) about it.

12. I see your point
The Executives at GE and NBC would have hypothetically never given Olbermann a show if they knew he'd draw 20 million viewers a night (which he doesn't come close to doing) which would seriously affect the political dynamics.

But Olbermann has still made some very principled and courageous stands. Yeah, he's quiet about the black box voting machines but it seems like he'd have a green light to report about Siegelman and Rove's other political prisoners.
