2. M$M did the same shit in 2002
There were probably 200,000 or more and NPR estimates 30K.

Other outlets said more than 10K.

6. They did it in 2005 too
THE ENTIRE MALL WAS COVERED, and they called it at about 40,000 people.

12. The US Park Service stopped doing that years ago. Just riled up controversy.

I've been to a lot of DC demos. This is about 1/5 the size of the September march. Not surprised, given that this had a lot less lead up, it's January, and we just elected a Democratic Congress.

The coming months will tell about whether we need to really fill the Mall again.

14. OK
NPS gave an unofficial estimate in September at 500,000 - which was probably close. Good point that it might be lower, but I'd still say from what has been televised that there's more than tens of thousands.

16. I was there an hour ago. Here's a good map - about 100,000 people.
Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 02:46 PM by leveymg
The crowd filled the Mall from the end of the block in front of the Air and Space Museum up to the block occupied by the US Archives. Let's look at a map, and see it's about 1/3 the length of the Mall (Capitol to Washington Mounument). That's an area about 1/8 mile square (1300X1300 ft = 1.7 million sq. ft). The crowd was fairly densely packed -- estimate 6 people in each 100 sq. ft). That yields - approx. 102,000. Close enough.

24. I think we better bombard these media outlets to report the truth
and stop playing us down, they are using us like fools, bush propaganda machine is shovelling it out.

We will get a report from our own DU'ERS.
